Aghakhani Gets Third Straight Podium in Am Class

They came into the weekend with a goal of an overall podium finish, and that's exactly what the ProAm duo of Damon Ockey and Jacob Eidson accomplished today at Road America. While the pair didn't have the best qualifying, their timing was impeccable today. Seconds after Ockey came into the pits, the course went yellow giving them the edge in the second half of the race. Eidson was able to stay on-track, while the majority of the competitors still had stops to make.

He was right on the tail of the leader when another full-course caution flew on the last lap dashing the team's hopes for a race win, but still giving the drivers of the No. 09 Lamborghini of Calgary their second overall podium of the season along with their fourth class win in the first five races of the season.

Steven Aghakhani was running first in class on top-five overall, but missed the call that would have brought him into the pits along with Ockey. The communication issue allowed MacKay Snow to leapfrog to the front of the field since he did get into the pits prior to the caution. Even with the bad luck on the pitstop timing, the 16-year-old was able to bring the No. 6 Lamborghini of Beverly Hills home second in class and sixth overall. This is the third podium in a row for the rookie driver whose season started last month at Watkins Glen International.

The No. 34 Lamborghini of Beverly Hills also found themselves on the wrong side of the pitstop timing, but used the strong first stint by Patrick Liddy to keep them in contention for a top-five overall finish and a third-place in class. Unfortunately, on the last lap of the race, Bryce Miller had an incident in the "kink" ending the pairs hopes of a great finish. Miller has lucky to escape with just a bruised ankle, but the car suffered significant damage and will not be ready for tomorrow's race.

Ron Atapattu was disappointed with the results in the No. 24 Elephantea Lamborghini of La Jolla, but is still optimistic that he can get his first podium of the season this weekend at Road America. Atapattu will be running tomorrow in the ProAm class with Liddy as his co-driver. This will be the first time this season that Ron will share the driving duties and he's looking forward to the new challenge.

Tomorrow's Round 6 will go green at 10:55 a.m. Central time. Make sure to follow the action with live streaming at: http://squadracorse.lamborghini.com/en-en/live-streaming .

QUOTES:

Damon Ockey -
"Today's race was really good. Started a little bit behind because we didn't have a great qualifying. We started P11 overall, but I made up a few places at the start of the race. We were really lucky on our timing on our pitstop. The track went full-course yellow right after I came in, so everyone else had to stay out. Jake was able to catch up to the back of the field and then had a good push to make it up to second-place and just about got first-place, but missed it by a corner. The car was awesome! US RaceTronics did a great job with the car setup. The team's been really good. Tomorrow we're looking forward to another good race hoping to overall podium again, but you never know what's going to happen."

Jacob Eidson -
"Crazy race! Damon came in at the perfect time. When we left the pits we had the safety car, which helped us quite a bit. After that it was just a mad dash to try to pass as many cars as possible. Towards the end we had P1 in sight. Really crazy last couple of laps, but unfortunately with the yellow, I wasn't quite able to get around P1. But, having a P2 finish overall is great. We wanted to get an overall podium and we got it. Hopefully tomorrow we can do one better."

Steven Aghakhani
- "It was a good first race. We had a really good start and got up to fourth and third overall, but got unlucky with radio communications on the car that resulted in a poorly timed pitstop. We still took second in class, but lost the win. We're going to come back from this. The team's going to learn from this and so am I."

Patrick Liddy
- "Well, kind of a sad day for us. I ran a really good first-stint... top three most of the race. Unfortunately, Bryce had an incident on the last lap in the kink. Tires were greasy and he lost it. I'm glad he's okay."

Bryce Miller
- "I had an interesting race today. I mean Patrick did an awesome job of moving through the field and putting in some good, honest laps. He managed to bring it all the way to pit window in good shape, but then a caution flag came out. That delayed my entry into the race. Once I got in, I was putting in some consistent laps, before unfortunately on one of the last laps I lost it in the kink and hit the wall pretty hard and that ended our race. Not how we wanted it to go, but a shout out to Lamborghini for making such a safe car. I'm good and cars can be fixed, so we'll be back."

Ron Atapattu
- "We didn't get the result we wanted, but it was a good race. I'm looking forward to getting back out there tomorrow and excited to have Patrick join me in the Elephantea car. I haven't shared the driving duties this season, so we're going to have to practice driver changes in the morning. I'm sure it's going to be a great experience."

Shane Seneviratne
- "First of all, I'm glad that Bryce is okay. He had a pretty big crash on the last lap of the race and I'm glad that everything is fine with him. Unfortunately, we won't be able to repair that car in time for tomorrow's race. What we will be doing is having Patrick Liddy continue on with Ron Atapattu. We're going to change the No. 24 entry to a ProAm car, so looking forward to something new there. With the No. 09 car with Damon and Jacob we got really lucky. The way the yellows worked out we were able to capitalize on our pitstop and ended up second overall, so I'm extremely happy about that.

Unfortunately, we had a little radio problem with Steven. We were on the same strategy, but weren't able to capitalize. Otherwise he would have had an overall podium finish as well. He was running good pace we just have to regroup and get a better result for him tomorrow. So, tomorrow is going to be another day and we're looking forward to getting some good results for the entire team. Again, want to wish Bryce a speedy recovery. He has a slight bruise on his leg, but we're hoping to see him back in a car soon."
