The FIA Formula 2 Championship is set to get back in action next weekend at the legendary Belgian track, located on the outskirts of Verviers, for the ninth round of the season. Team Trident's Giuliano Alesi and Ralph Boschung are aiming for a return to the points zone.

Four weeks of silent engines allowed the teams and drivers of the FIA Formula 2 Championship to reset and recharge their batteries after a series of rounds covered by just a few weekends. The runners of the F1 feeder series will thus be ready to battle next weekend. After the meeting on Hungarian soil in Budapest, the Formula 2 circus is back at Spa-Francorchamps, certainly one of the most complete and demanding venues on the calendar.

The track, measuring 7.004 km, is the longest on the schedule and is known for changing weather conditions. It may happen to have rain on one side of the circuit and a completely dry asphalt on the other. When it rains, there are also areas where water accumulates, given the type of area and its inclines.

Many drivers have elected Spa-Francorchamps as their favourite track as it still leaves room for instinct and adrenaline. The circuit stands out for its particularly high average speeds, with two long straights and a decidedly technical central part. Stress on tires is expected to be particularly relevant. Giuliano Alesi has an excellent tradition on the ups and downs of the scenic Belgian track, where he celebrated on the top step of the podium in the 2017 GP3 Series.

It was his third Sprint Race win of that season. His goal will be to increase his score in the driver championship. He will be partnered by 20-year-old Swissman Ralph Boschung, who got three top-ten qualifying results in the first five races of the season. Boschung made his comeback to the series at Hungaroring after missing the races at Spielberg and Silverstone.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager:

“I am sure that we will line-up in an aggressive and combative mood at Spa-Francorchamps. We are very determined after the four-week summer break, which allowed us to prepare for the final part of the season in the best possible way. We face the trip to Belgium to improve our score in the general ranking.

We must be ambitious and self-confident. I am sure that our drivers will work well with the technical staff and will achieve important results."

FIA F3 Championship, Spa-Francorchamps, Race Preview

The FIA Formula 3 Championship is set to enter its final stint of the year with the running of round 6 this weekend on the ups and downs of Spa-Francorchamps.

The legendary Belgian track always offered very spectacular races in the past, with the Team Trident drivers emerging as absolute protagonists. In fact, the Milan-based squad took the top step of the podium at the venue in 2017 and 2018. The tradition for the team is thus undoubtedly a winning one. It is a point of pride in what is unanimously considered the most complete and difficult challenge of the season.

The goal of Team Trident and its drivers is to continue in the same direction held so far and secure the first win of the year to follow a few unprofitable runs in terms of results. 21-year-old Pedro Piquet will line-up on Belgian soil to catch up with the leading pack in the championship rankings, after four consecutive races outside the points zone which brought him down from fifth to ninth in the general classification.

The third podium of the season is certainly a declared target for his weekend. As for 19-year-old Finn Niko Kari, the former Red Bull junior driver took a remarkable fifth place in qualifying at Hungaroring but did not repeat himself in the races due to a flat tire. Devlin Defrancesco put up an excellent race-day performance in Budapest, recovering more than 10 positions after being slowed down by another car in a decisive qualifying lap.

The 19-year-old Canadian continues his impressive growth and now aims at his first points finish of the season. The epic Walloon track can bring all the right ingredients together for a successful weekend for Team Trident. The preparation work was very accurate, as usual: now it is up to the driving talent to seize a result in line with the winning tradition of the team.

Giacomo Ricci, Team Manager:

"In the last couple of outings at Silverstone and Budapest our cars performed at good levels, but our drivers missed out a bit on the implementation part. In Belgium, on one of the most beautiful and complete tracks of the season, the goal is to give our 100 per cent effort, carrying on an excellent tradition for the team which featured repeated wins at the venue”.

The FIA Formula 2 Championship will go underway Friday at 1:00 pm with the first free practice session. Qualifying is also scheduled for Friday 4.55pm. The Feature Race will start at 4.45pm, while the Sprint Race is scheduled on Sunday at 11.15am.

The FIA Formula 3 Championship cars will start on Friday at 9:35 am for the free practice session. Qualifying will be later the same day at 5:50 pm. Race 1 is scheduled at 10:35 while Race 2 will be Sunday at 9:45. As usual, all the activity will be followed covered live by the Sky Sports F1 network.
