TCR Europe preview -Josh Files is aiming to secure the title in Spain

Seven weeks after racing at Oschersleben, the TCR Europe series resumes in Spain. The Circuit de Barcelona Catalunya hosts the penultimate event of the season with Josh Files (Target Competition, Hyundai i30 N) firmly in command.

With two wins and four other podium results, the Briton has built a 78-point lead, becoming the obvious favourite in the title fight. His most serious contender appears to be Luca Engstler (M1RA Motorsport, Hyundai), especially after his maiden win in the series at the Red Bull Ring promoted him to second in the points. However, Files might already secure the title this weekend.

Close behind there is a bunch of drivers who are eager to stay in contention: Julien Briché (JSB Compétition, Peugeot 308), Mat’o Homola (Target Competition, Hyundai), Santiago Urrutia (Team WRT, Audi RS 3 LMS), Nelson Panciatici (M Racing, Hyundai), Gilles Magnus (Comtoyou Racing, Audi), Andreas Bäckman (Target Competition, Hyundai), Maxime Potty (Team WRT, Volkswagen Golf GTI) and finally Aurélien Comte (DG Sport Compétition, Peugeot) who is 37 points behind Engstler.

In Spain John Filippi will make his comeback to the series, replacing Davit Kajaia in one of the CUPRA cars run by PCR Sport, while Jack Young will make his maiden appearance in the Vuković Motorsport Renault Mégane.

The event is also valid for the TCR Benelux and TCR Ibérico trophies.
