TCR Europe's penultimate event at Barcelona saw Andreas Bäckman and Daniel Lloyd take one race win apiece.

The Swedish youngster inherited victory in Race 1 following the penalties imposed to Julien Briché and Josh Files, while the Briton led Race 2 from lights to flag.

For both it was a kind of compensation for what had occurred at Oschersleben, where Bäckman was first at the end of Race 1, but, due to a technical infringement, was stripped of the victory that went to Lloyd.

The first race in Barcelona was again full of drama. Besides the incidents that eliminated half-a-dozen competitors – including title contender Luca Engstler – a number of penalties were imposed for grid and start infringements.

Briché and Files were first and second throughout the race, but the Frenchman was then demoted to second by a penalty for a grid infringement, while Files was dropped out of the point zone by a 30-second penalty for grid infringement and jump start. And so, Bäckman was elevated to winner ahead of Briché and Santiago Urrutia.

Lloyd led the whole of Race 2 after starting from pole position. Gilles Magnus chased him throughout the race, but had to settle for second position, while Briché completed the podium and kept the title fight alive, having reduced to 48 points the gap in the standings to Files, who was classified fifth.

In both races, 17-year old rookie Jack Young drove the Vuković Motorsport Renault Mégane to finish in fourth position that was a big leap forward for the French car developed by the Swiss outfit.

As far as the title fight is concerned, with 85 points still on offer, Briché retains a chance to prevent Files from being crowned champion. The only other driver who is still in contention, Andreas Bäckman, is now 83 points behind Files.

TCR Europe will next visit Monza to finish the season on October 11th/13th.
