Wetter: Überwiegend trocken und sonnig, 20 Minuten vor Ende der zweiten Session leichter Regen, 26-31°C Luft, 36-46°C Asphalt.
Guter Start ins Wochenende für das BMW Sauber F1 Team: Beide 90-Minuten-Trainings auf dem winkligen Hungaroring bei Budapest verliefen störungsfrei. Vormittags fuhr Robert Kubica die Bestzeit, Nick Heidfeld war Sechster. Am Nachmittag trübte sich der Himmel erwartungsgemäß ein, es fielen sogar ein paar Regentropfen. Nachmittags war Heidfeld als Fünfter der Schnellere, Kubica belegte Platz zehn.

"Für uns liefen die Trainings insgesamt gut. Wir hatten keine technischen Probleme und konnten alles erledigen. Es ist allerdings sehr schwierig, hier die Reifen optimal zum Funktionieren zu bringen. Das so genannte Graining, das Körnen der Reifen, ist ein echtes Problem. Aber, so weit ich das beurteilen kann, geht das anderen Fahrern genauso. Ich denke, die Kräfteverhältnisse der vorderen Teams sind hier unverändert. Unser diesjähriges Auto ist auf High-Downforce-Strecken wie Monaco oder Budapest offensichtlich besser als der F1.06 im vergangenen Jahr."

"Der Tag lief ziemlich gut. Wir sind viele Runden gefahren, um die Reifen zu beobachten. Hier in Ungarn verwenden wir die weichste Reifenmischung der Saison, genau wie in Monaco. Darum haben wir in erster Linie Longruns trainiert, um zu sehen, wie sich die Reifen über die Distanz verhalten. So weit, so gut. Wir haben jetzt eine Menge Daten, die wir für morgen analysieren werden. Die Streckenbedingungen waren nicht optimal heute. Neben der Ideallinie ist es ziemlich schmutzig. Aber diese Situation gilt für alle."
Willy Rampf (Technischer Direktor):
"Wir haben unser Programm ohne Probleme abgespult, lediglich der kurze Regenschauer am Nachmittag hat diesen Ablauf ein wenig gestört. Dennoch haben wir genügend Daten gesammelt, die wir nun auswerten werden. Wir haben heute die Konzentration auf die Rennvorbereitung gelegt.
Die Entscheidung bezüglich der Reifenwahl erfordert die Auswertung weiterer Daten. Es bleibt eine geringe Regenwahrscheinlichkeit für Samstag und Sonntag bestehen, darauf müssen wir uns einstellen."
