Parallel to the ADAC GT Masters' season opener, the series' eSports championship also started at the Lausitzring this weekend. A Mercedes-AMG won the race at the Lausitzring in real and virtual terms.

The Briton Jack Keithley led a double victory for the Esports team of the Williams Formula 1 racing team and won just ahead of his team mate Nikodem Wisniewski from Poland. Néstor García from the Red Bull Racing Esports team completed the podium in another Mercedes AMG.

In the ADAC GT Masters eSports Championship, the best simracers in Europe compete for a prize money pot of 80,000 euros in eight races held parallel to the real ADAC GT Masters.

The two Williams Esports drivers dominated the start of the season at the virtual Lausitzring. Wisniewski started the race in second place behind pole setter García and took the lead in the first corner, followed by Keithley who started from fourth position. The order remained unchanged until the mandatory pit stop, when Keithley used his chance in the pit stop phase to take the lead from his team-mate.

The Briton then defended the lead in the 40-minute race and then cheered for victory. "I'm overwhelmed. It was a tough race and I can hardly believe that I won. Niko Wisniewski is one of the best simracers in the world, just like the other riders in the field. To prevail against the boys is great. There are still seven races to go, but it was a very good start."

García finished third ahead of Erhan Jajovski, who will start in another Mercedes AMG for R8G eSports, the Esports team of Formula 1 driver Romain Grosjean. The triumph of Williams Esports was completed by Jakub Brzezinski in fifth, the Pole driving a Porsche 911 GT3 R. ADAC GT Masters eSports title defender Moritz Löhner finished sixth in the Mercedes-AMG GT3 from Mahle Racing Team.

Tim Jarschel (Euronics Gaming) drove the fastest Corvette in the field in seventh place ahead of Kevin Siggy (Team Redline) from Slovenia in a Mercedes-AMG. Bence Bánki, the second driver from the Red Bull Esports team in the field, and Gergo Baldi (M1RA Esports) from Hungary completed the top ten in a Corvette and a BMW M6.

As part of the ADAC GT Masters at the Nürburgring, the eSports Series will enter the second round on 15 August.
