Lime Rock finish gives Trans Sport Mid-Ohio momentum
Team Trans Sport and drivers Terry Borcheller and Tim Pappas recorded a season-best finish of fifth in GT2 at Lime Rock.
A fifth-place GT2 effort at Lime Rock - where it was firmly entrenched in a battle for podium position - has put Team Trans Sport on the right track for the second half of the American Le Mans Series season. Terry Borcheller and team owner Tim Pappas recorded their best finish of the season at a track that gave many of their fellow competitors fits.
The Florida-based team will look to keep the Lime Rock momentum as it takes its Yokohama-shod Porsche 911 GT3 RSR to the Acura Sports Car Challenge next weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
"The key to winning at Lime Rock is not having contact; you have to be very conscientious of the traffic," said Borcheller, a veteran of 64 Series starts with two wins and 26 podium finishes. "You have to be smart and can't make any mistakes."
Team Trans Sport has tested its Porsche and Yokohama tires at Mid-Ohio, site of next weekend's Acura Sports Car Challenge.
The only bit of misfortune the team suffered was a punctured tire following contact with one of the Risi Ferraris that forced a stop for repairs. Nevertheless, the No. 54 Porsche ran as high as second in the sixth round of the 2007 schedule.
"Despite quite a few obstacles, the team has come together pretty quickly," Borcheller said. "Tim has taken the step up to the American Le Mans Series and did a great job. It was good to be competitive again. You don't ever give up."
Team manager Jim Bell commended the team's drivers, crews and preparation on the fantastic weekend. He also said a new tire from Yokohama played a large role in the Porsche's performance. The team has tested the Yokohama rubber at several places, Mid-Ohio being one of them.
"We're making some progress and so is Yokohama," Bell said. "We've been engineering for how to get the most out of the car on the new tire. It's a learning year for us. At Lime Rock, we were much more competitive than we have been."
The next round of the American Le Mans Series is the Acura Sports Car Challenge, scheduled for 3:15 p.m. ET on Saturday, July 21 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The race will be broadcast live on XM Satellite Radio's Sports Nation Channel and American Le Mans Radio via americanlemans.com, which also will feature IMSA's Live Timing & Scoring. CBS Sports will broadcast the race from 2 to 4 p.m. ET on Sunday, July 22.
