This year saw the cancellation of the Speedway Great Britain Premiership due to coronavirus restrictions. However, even with the speedway leagues being cancelled in the UK, there were still plenty of exciting races.

On top of that, the league is expected to return in 2021. To celebrate the end of the year, we've looked back on 2020 and picked out the most intense and exciting races of the year. While it may not have been the best year for Speedway, there were still some excellent moments for fans.

Come 2021, the league will have returned, and hopefully, there will be even more fantastic races to look forward to. The return of the Speedway Great Britain Premiership means there will be plenty of opportunities for Speedway betting.

The British Speedway Championship

Although the competition was interrupted by the pandemic, the UK's biggest Speedway event still went ahead mostly to plan and saw some of the most exciting races of the year. Several riders, including defending champion Charles Wright chose not to compete in this year's Championship, which led to some interesting races.

The semi-finals of the event were cancelled due to travel restrictions, and by the time the final came around, it was originally scheduled to take place at Ipswich with a limited number of fans able to attend. However, bad weather saw the finals rescheduled, and the venue was moved to the National Speedway Stadium in Manchester.

The races saw some intense competition but, in the end, Australian rider Rory Schlein was crowned the British Champion after a strong and consistent display of racing. Schlein, who races for Somerset Rebels in the SGB Championship did well to manage in muddy and wet conditions in what was his fourth British Championship.

Coming in second was Richard Lawson, while Jason Crump came third and Steve Worral was fourth. Meanwhile, Danny King, who won the 2016 final, only won a single race and didn't manage to make the semi-finals. With a lot of the more established stars dropping out of the race, it was a chance for some young riders to enter the spotlight, with Drew Kemp, the U19 British Champion impressing and scoring eight points.

When interviewed after the race, Schlein had the following to say:  "I'm over the moon, I really am. The weather conditions made things pretty tough, and we didn't have it all our own way all night. We really had to fight for this. "It's been an interesting and memorable night for me, I'm delighted. I'm committed to racing next year, and I definitely want to come back and have another crack at the title.

Hopefully, things are back to normal by then, and we can have all the big boys taking part because we want it to be a spectacle. It's the British Final, it's the best riders in Britain, and I can't wait to be back."

British U-21 Championship

On Saturday, October the 17th, Shielfield Park Stadium hosted the U-21 British Championship final. With the finals and semi-finals cancelled due to pandemic restrictions, the Championship was settled after twenty heats. Sixteen riders competed in the event.

Twenty-one years old Team GB rider, Dan Bewley lifted the Championship as he achieved a fifteen point maximum from five rides. Bewley was the defending champion and will be pleased to cap off his u-21 career with a successful defence before moving up to the big leagues next season.

Meanwhile, Berwick favourite Leon Flint came in second place with fourteen points, Anders Rowe took third place, and double U-19 champion Drew Kemp came fourth with twelve points.
