Supported by the Portuguese League Against Cancer in Porto

Luís Pedro Magalhães is the third Portuguese - alongside Tiago Monteiro and Miguel Freitas - to participate in the FIA WTCC event at Porto this weekend.

The 36-year old driver born in Mozambique but resident in Porto, will be at the wheel of an Exagon Racing SEAT León, within the humanitarian initiative "Corrida pela Vida" (Race for the Life) that aims to raise funds in favour of the Portuguese League Against Cancer.

Magalhães, who was diagnosed a cancer one year ago, is supported in this initiative by former Portuguese Formula One drivers Pedro Lamy and Pedro Matos Chaves and by SEAT, Eurosport Events, KSO, Monroe, Metelli, Panta, Yokohama and RM who all contributed to his participation.

"My life was a turning point when I successfully finished chemotherapy treatment. I said to myself: what can I do to show other people that is possible to defeat cancer? And the answer was, going back to normal life and start racing again," said Magalhães.

"Since when we started this project, back in March, my ultimate goal was taking part in the WTCC event hosted by my home town, because it will give a worldwide exposure to our initiative.

And to achieve this goal is a dream fullfilled. Never mind what the sporting results will be, the most important thing is to pass the message onwards. And if I will be able to help somebody in his fight against cancer, that will be my victory!"
