Increased UK coverage completes best-ever FIA-GT TV distribution
SKY SPORTS AND ITV’s MEN & MOTORS ADD TO STELLAR LINE-UP
With the combination of a prime-time programme on leading British sports network Sky Sports, and up to 47 hours ofmlive television on ITV-owned Men and Motors, the FIA GT Championship is heading for its best-ever distribution on British television. Along with the continuation of the 26-minute highlight programme on terrestrial station Channel 4, this brings coverage in the United Kingdom in line with the excellent distribution already announced for Germany, Italy, Belgium and France, and other countries around the world.
"I am truly delighted with the coverage we have achieved for this season," Stephane Ratel, chairman of SRO, promoter of the FIA GT and GT3 European Championships commented. "We have secured coverage on all the main channels we targeted, and we are extremely pleased to be reaching new markets, reflecting the global appeal of GT racing."
For the important German market, a deal has been signed with DSF in Germany to show all the events either live or same-day delayed. DSF is Germany’s leading sports network, present in over 90% of German homes. Furthermore, all rounds of the Championship, including qualifying practice and the race, will be shown live on pay cable channel Premiere - the strongest coverage ever achieved in Germany.
In Belgium, another important market, the two leading terrestrials networks will feature the FIA GT Championship. RTL will show the half-hour highlights in prime-time on Club RTL, while RTBF1 will broadcast news after each race. In Italy, all races will be shown live on Sky Italia.
In France, Sport + will broadcast the races live, or show a 52-minute edited programme. In the Netherlands, live coverage will continue on UPC-owned Sport 1, the leading sports channel in the country.
New for 2007, the Championship will be shown live in Portugal, on the number one sports channel Sport TV, and in Russia on the terrestrial network 7 TV. A major new deal will see the 52-minute highlights programme broadcast on Zee in India, reaching over 70 million homes.
In the Middle East, it will be seen live on ART (the Arab Radio and Television Network), while highlights will be shown all over South America on Speed. Furthermore, the FIA GT3 European Championship will be shown live on Men and Motors in the United Kingdom, on Nuvolari in Italy, Premiere in Germany, with the highlights on Speed in South America.
National broadcasts of many races will add to the impressive line-up. For example, when the 2007 season gets underway on March 25th in Zhuhai, the event will receive exceptional coverage in China and neighbouring areas. It will be covered live on Zhuhai TV Two, covering the Zhuhai area and seen by 1.5 million people, on the Guangzhou TV Competition Channel, in Guangzhou (10 million), the Guangdong TV Satellite Channel (Guangdong Province, 110 million) and on the Guangdong TV Satellite Channel (covering north to Russia, west to Africa, eastern Europe, south to southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand, with up to 2 billion potential viewers).
Other channels are still to be confirmed, while a further four will cover news coverage, including CCTV-5, Zhuhai TV and Foshan TV, with the same channels preparing special subjects on the race.
