Pole-Position für Williams - Rivale Rambow auf Rang zwei
Zweikampf der Titel-Anwärter: Shane Williams hat sich die Pole-Position für das neunte und vorletzte Saison-Rennen zum ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup auf dem Sachsenring gesichert. Der Südafrikaner verwies Alexander Rambow aus Zehdenick in den Schlussminuten des Zeittrainings mit hauchdünnem Vorsprung von sechs Hundertstelsekunden auf Platz zwei.
Damit bilden die beiden Titel-Kontrahenten im Rennen am Sonntag die erste Startreihe vor Andreas Simonsen (Schweden) und Brands-Hatch-Sieger Maciek Steinhof (Polen). Maximilian Sandritter (Raubling) schloss mit Rang neun als bester Teilnehmer der "Rookie"-Wertung ab.
Die Chinesen Ming Lai und Jincun Wan, Teilnehmer des internationalen Volkswagen Austausch-Programms, belegten mit ihren Renn-Polo die Plätze 24 und 25. Obwohl der Sachsenring für alle Teilnehmer neu war, ging es im Zeittraining mit 14 Autos innerhalb einer Sekunde enorm eng zu.
Formel 3 Euro Serie Rang neun für Volkswagen Pilot Eduardo Mortara
Wolfsburg (20. September 2008) Aufholjagd blieb unbelohnt: Volkswagen Pilot Edoardo Mortara verpasste beim 15. Saisonrennen der Formel 3 Euro Serie im spanischen Barcelona mit Platz neun nur knapp die Punkteränge.
Dabei erwischte der Tabellenzweite vom Team Signature nach Position 15 im Zeittraining einen guten Start ins Rennen. "Powered by Volkswagen" schoss der Italiener auf die zehnte Position nach vorn und verbesserte sich kurz vor Rennende noch um einen Platz.
Ebenfalls einen Marsch durchs Feld lieferten zwei Fahrer aus dem Team RC Motorsport, Jens Klingmann und Peter Elkmann. Klingmann verbesserte sich von Startplatz 25 auf die elfte, Elkmann von Rang 28 auf die 13. Position. Auch Signature-Pilot Franck Mailleux machte viel Boden gut: Der Brands-Hatch-Sieger errang Position zwölf, nachdem er als 26. gestartet war.
