Clark continues domination

03.12.2006: Clark continues domination

Leg Two of Wales Rally GB saw Aberdeen's Barry Clark take a formidable ten minute lead over the rest of the pack in the sixth and final round of the Fiesta SportingTrophy International (FSTi).

FSTi competitors were hampered by a range of problems with brake troubles topping the list. Four Fiesta competitors were slowed due to brake-related dilemmas and a further three with wheel bearing trouble or collapses. The harder stage surface seemed to be kind to competitors' tyres but as a result gave service crews plenty to do.

Young Norwegian Sveinung Bieltvedt battled a niggling front brake problem all day to take second position at the end of the day after overnight runner up Alessandro Bettega was forced out on SS7 with a collapsed wheel-bearing.

Gilles Schammel moved up a spot on today's stages, overtaking Greek driver Lambros Athanassoulas who later went out after SS9 with gearbox problemst. Apart from an early puncture Schammel completed the day fairly unscathed.

Despite losing over seven minutes on SS9, Tom Walster managed to edge closer to a podium position at the end of the leg with three stage wins to Clark's two.
