When he arrived at Varennes sur Allier on the first weekend of September for the World Cup for KZ1 2008, Davide Fore could not help thinking about the podium he lost in 2007, after a collision from behind in the final. He owed it to the Maranello Team, this is why the Italian driver really did his best to reach the top 3 despite a missed heat.
After a long wait, Davide Fore succeeded in winning the world round for 125cc gearbox karts in 2006. The following year he lost his leadership in the World Cup for KZ1, which he considers particularly difficult. "At the WSK as well as at the European Championship, I compete in KF1.
Therefore during the season I have raced less often than most of the other drivers in this very special category. Despite all this, we had carefully prepared the race with the Maranello team and I was determined to achieve a good result in Italy. Moreover, I knew I could count on the Maxter engine performances and on the support provided by Patrick Savard".
On Friday, the racetrack was dry during timed qualifying and Davide Fore achieved the 7th best absolute performance. The Italian driver was confident, but rain disrupted the qualifying round on Saturday. In the first heat, he had an accident and finished 17th.
"I played my joker right at the beginning. Then, I could no longer afford more mistakes and I did my best to reach a good position in the other two heats". He finished the heats in 3rd and 4th place and was 12th on the pre-final grid.
"There, instead, I had no more choices. I had to attack as hard as I could". At the wheel of a perfectly adjusted Maranello-Maxter, he climbed to 6th place just before the final. His performance was satisfactory, since the five time World Champion achieved the second best time in race.
Unfortunately, there was another accident after a bit of pushing and shoving at the start of the decisive race and he fell in 7th place, while the leading duo took off. It was then that the Maranello driver realised he had lost the title. However he continued to fight hard and after some nice overtaking, he kept the third position until the end.
Although Davide had to content himself with this podium, he can now aim at victory on September 21st, at Muro Leccese, for the World KF1 Championship!
Davide Fore: "I would have liked to be in the wake of Thonon and d’Ardigo from the very first lap, because then I set the same times as they did during most of the final. It would have been interesting to see if a better rank was within reach.
But I am very happy anyway that I conquered a new podium for the Maranello team. So far, it has been an excellent year for us I would like to thank all the team members and Maxter-Tec’Sav for the engine part".
