DTCC 2006 - RING DJURSLAND - MARTIN JENSEN TAKES THE PODIUM!

28.08.2006: DTCC 2006 - RING DJURSLAND - MARTIN JENSEN TAKES THE PODIUM!

The 4th race of the danish touring car championship took place in Djursland.

The most important information before this event was the decision of Markko Martin to stop competing with Hartmann Racing Team despite of a one year contract.

That situation obliged Hans Hartmann to drive (for the first time this year) one of the HONDA Accord.

Saturday – Practice

During the first free practice, the team worked hard to find the right balance for dry conditions. Martin Jensen was P5 and Hans Hartmann P22. Both cars were running very well.

In the second free session, the rain copiously sprinkled the circuit and the team had to quickly move from dry settings to wet ones. Martin Jensen was still P5 and Hans P22 ( app. 2 sec slower).

Sunday:

It was a rainy Sunday on Ring Djursland circuit. During the first Session, Martin quickly made the 6th best time and Hans qualified in 22nd position. All other sessions were cancelled because of the terrible crash involving Jens Edman (Peugeot Driver) who unfortunately injured himself badly and also injured a photographer.

Race 1 Pre final

It was pouring down with rain and Martin gained one place in this pre-final finishing 5th which gave him the pole position for the final race. "My car was running very well and the set up was excellent" said Martin.

On his side, Hans did very well after some difficult laps, whereby the water spray of the other cars certainly did not help.

"I couldn’t see anything for 3 laps. Then the track line started to dry , I found more grip and I started to overtake. I started in P 22, I crossed the line in P15 and my best time was the 12th best one, only 1 sec slower than the winner." Said Hans .

Race 2 Final

Martin Jensen had a difficult start losing 2 places while Hans gained 2.

Then heavy rain started coming down on the track and the race director decided to bring out the safety car. " I was overtaken by the drivers behind me under a yellow flag. They didn’t get any penalty and I dropped to P17." commented Hans. "After the safety car came back into the pit, Martin was hit by J.Nielsen (still no penalty) and dropped to P6. In spite of it, Martin still believed he had a chance and he managed to get a podium place. I finished in P16." Said Hans.

"I am very happy with this result even if Martin lost one place in the overall classification .We are still 3RD in the Team championship and Honda is the best front wheel car."concluded Hans.
