It is still uncertain, when Jens Edman will return to his racing car. However, photographer Birger Vilén will be back at the next round at the start of September (photographer: Birger Vilén).

The two injured persons following Sunday’s accident during the shoot out qualification for the Danish Touringcar Championship at Ring Djursland where both released from hospital on Monday. In the accident sometime WTCC driver Jens Edman of Sweden aquaplaned off the circuit and into a guardrail and fence, which folded backwards and hit Danish Touringcar Championship photographer Birger Vilén on his head.

Examinations at the hospital revealed that Jens Edman had suffered more severe injuries than originally expected.

"There is vertebra, which has been broken," Jens Edman explains on returning to Sweden on Monday afternoon. "For how long time I will have to wait in order to be ready to drive again, I do not know. One doctor has indicated that I might have to wear a support for three months, but tomorrow I will go to my local hospital to be checked by a specialist."

Apart from the broken vertebra the Peugeot Sport Danmark driver has a very sore body.

"All my muscles have been stretched in the accident, and the doctors say that I will have to wait for a while before they will return back to normal. But I have been asked to rest," the Swede says.

The series’ regular photographer Birger Vilén suffered a heavy gash to his head, a heavy headache and several abrasions.

"I am quite okay," he says. "I still have a nasty headache and a very sore body, but I am quite fresh now and I am actually feeling better after getting out of bed."

While it is jet unclear when Jens Edman will be back in his DTC car, Birger Vilén is expecting to be back at the next round of the Danish Touringcar Championship at Jyllandsringen og September 2nd and 3rd.
