SS6: Gronholm extends lead in Acropolis Rallye
With his stage victory on the penultimate contest of the first Leg, BP-Ford World Rally Team's Marcus Gronholm increases his overall lead to 17.5 seconds over Subaru World Rally Team's Petter Solberg and 30.6 seconds over Sebastien Loeb. Gronholm captured his fifth consecutive stage victory on the day's penultimate test and has yet to be challenged on any of the event's proper rally stages.
Solberg, who is second overall, scored the second quickest time on the sixth stage. Falling behind Solberg was Loeb. Loeb dropped another 4.6 seconds to Solberg and is now 13.1 seconds off second overall.
Manfred Stohl began to find his pace after a slow start to his rally and finished with the fourth quickest time, 12.4 seconds off Gronholm's time. Following Stohl was his OMV-Peugeot Norway World Rally Team team-mate Henning Solberg. Solberg completed the stage 1.8 seconds behind his team-mate and 14.2 seconds off Gronholm.
Toni Gardemeister continued to post competitive stage times in his return to competitive rally after a nearly five-month absense. Gardemeister had not driven a World Rally Car since Rallye Automobile Monte Carlo earlier this year. The Finn completed the stage with the sixth quickest time.
Only 0.1 seconds behind Gardemeister was the 2005 FIA Junior World Rally Champion Dani Sordo. Sordo completed the stage 16 seconds off the rally leader's time.
Several drivers suffered punctures on the stage. Subaru's Chris Atkinson had a rear puncture on the driver's side while Mikko Hirvonen also fell victim to a puncture.

As the field returned to action after the afternoon's service, tyre wear became evident as a potential problem for the remainder of the Leg's stages.
