WRC Rallyes - Sordo on-course for J-WRC title

Spaniard Dani Sordo has been all-but crowned this year's Junior World Rally Championship title winner after the Citroen C2 driver's only remaining rival for the crown, Suzuki driver Guy Wilks, crashed on SS8 of this weekend's Movistar Rally Catalunya. The British ace had to win the Spanish asphalt event to deny Sordo the title.

Finn Mikko Hirvonen became the second Ford privateer to interrupt double champion Sebastien Loeb's run of stage wins on the Movistar Rally Catalunya when he set the top time on the final stage of the second leg. Loeb still holds a comfortable overall lead over his Belgian Citroen team-mate Francois Duval.

Junior World Rally Championship title favourite Dani Sordo has been handed a 60-second penalty for an engine-related infringement on today's opening leg of the Movistar Rally Catalunya. Event stewards were unhappy with the nature of Citroen's solution to engine problems on Sordo's car on Thursday's pre-event shakedown.

Mitsubishi's Gigi Galli has blamed an incorrectly noted corner for his embarrassing exit from today's second leg of the Movistar Rally Catalunya. The Italian, who was challenging for fourth place on the Spanish asphalt event, had crossed the timing beam with the fastest time for the stage when he promptly slid off the road.

Ford's Toni Gardemeister has blamed a brake problem for the accident on SS10 that turfed him out of fourth-place overall on the Movistar Rally Catalunya. The Finn lost over 12 minutes whilst his Focus WRC was stuck off the road, before spectators managed to help him on his way again.

Sebastien Loeb added another 3.7 seconds to his lead over his Citroen team-mate Francois Duval with his seventh stage win of the Movistar Rally Catalunya. The first stage of the second leg of the Movistar Rally Catalunya has been cancelled because of spectator problems. Just five cars registered times on the stage before the decision was taken to suspend it. That means no change in the overall order since last night, with double champion Sebastien Loeb still in charge for Citroen.
