Peugeot's Marcus Gronholm continued his dominance of Neste Rally Finland on the second run through Ouninpohja Ita stage. The Finn was 2.5 seconds clear of Citroen's Sebastien Loeb and made it a clean sweep of the daunting Ouninpohja series of stages described by Loeb as "very specialised".
Gronholm used all his local knowledge and experience to full effect to increase his rally lead to 23.7 seconds over Loeb. His Peugeot team-mate Markko Martin again finished best of the rest in third and maintains the same position overall, albeit 1m17s off the leader's pace. Ford's Toni Gardemeister finished the stage in fifth place, splitting the works Subarus of Chris Atkinson and Petter Solberg.
Norwegian Solberg has struggled to regain the pace he showed at the start of leg one having damagted the car's suspension on the eighth stage. The crews now head into service before tackling the longest stage of the event - the 40.96km Moksi-Leustu stage.
After the opening day's nine stages of the fifth round of the Junior World Rally Championship, Citroen ace Kris Meeke enjoys a comfortable lead after capitalising on the misfortunes that befell the Suzuki team. His five fastest times have set him up nicely to take the lead in the WRC's feeder championship.
