Fernando, du hast in Monaco zwei unerwartete WM-Punkte geholt – wie hast du das Rennen gesehen?

Fernando Alonso :
"  Es war – wie immer in Monaco – ein hartes Rennen, mental sehr anstrengend. Von Startplatz neun lässt sich in Monte Carlo aus eigener Kraft wenig ausrichten. Trotz unserer guten Strategie haben wir die beiden Positionen nur durch Ausfälle vor uns gewonnen. Auch der Verkehr auf der Strecke arbeitete uns nicht gerade in die Hände.

Mehr als die zwei Punkte waren an diesem Tag für uns nicht drin, obwohl sich der Renault R29 sich wirklich gut anfühlte und im Rennverlauf sogar noch verbesserte. Es ist wichtig, dass wir weiterhin in jedem Rennen punkten, denn am Ende des Jahres könnte es auf jeden Zähler ankommen. "


Am kommenden Wochenende geht es im Istanbul Park weiter – magst du die türkische Grand Prix-Strecke?


Fernando Alonso : "  Ja, sie ist sehr unterhaltsam zu fahren und bietet eine Reihe Überholmöglichkeiten, vor allem vor Turn 12 am Ende der Gegengeraden, wo es in den langsamen letzten Streckenteil übergeht. Aber es gibt auch einige sehr schnelle Abschnitte und außergewöhnliche Kurven wie den endlosen Linksbogen Turn 8, für mich eine der aufregendsten Kurven des ganzen Jahres.

In Istanbul liegt die Herausforderung darin, die richtige Balance zu finden, denn du brauchst ein Auto, das sowohl in den langsamen wie in den schnellen Passagen präzise Richtungswechsel erlaubt."


Bist du mit der bisherigen Weiterentwicklung des Renault R29 zufrieden?


Fernando Alonso :
"  Es ist unstrittig, dass wir einen weiteren großen Schritt schaffen müssen. In den kommenden Wochen werden wir immer wieder neue Entwicklungsteile am Auto haben. Das hilft uns weiter, wird uns aber sicher nicht gleich in der Türkei in die erste Startreihe bringen.

Allerdings gehe ich davon aus, dass wir im weiteren Saisonverlauf – ähnlich wie im Vorjahr – wieder um Podestplätze und Siege kämpfen können. Wir wissen, dass es schwer wird, aber das ganze Team ist extrem motiviert und entschlossen, es wieder ganz nach vorn zu schaffen."
