One of the UK’s most promising young racers, Craig Dolby, will line up for leading London club Tottenham Hotspur in this year’s Superleague Formula race series which kicks off at Magny Cours in France on 28 June.

The 21-year old Englishman was one of the undoubted stars of the inaugural Superleague Formula season when taking top Belgian club Anderlecht to an impressive sixth place in the final points table.

 “I’m over the moon to be back in Superleague and it’s fantastic to be racing for an English club. The cars are great to drive and the sound from their V12 engines is just out of this world,” enthused a delighted Dolby. “Superleague was a massive step up for me in 2008 but I learned a lot. I’m now fitter, more mature and ready to build on the podiums I achieved with Anderlecht. Hopefully we can get a win early on and then have a really good crack at the outright championship title. I’m there to win it this year and itching to get out on the track.”

Adding to the intrigue, the Tottenham Hotspur is part of a rare Anglo-Scottish soccer alliance as Silverstone-based Alan Docking Racing is managing the Spurs cars alongside the Glasgow Rangers FC entry.

“Far from being rivals, I’m sure we’ll be a strong team,” continued Dolby. “Having a fast team-mate, like John Martin who’s racing for Rangers, means we will push each other hard.”

After mixed results in 2008 when the club finished in mid-table, Tottenham Hotspur is hoping that its latest signing will produce its maiden Superleague Formula race win in 2009. Second place at Zolder in Belgium is the club’s best race finish to date.

Superleague Formula
Superleague Formula is the fusion of the two of the world’s most popular sports – capturing the passion of football with the thrill and excitement of motor racing. The new concept features a field of evenly matched V12-powered, 750 horsepower single seater racecars bearing the colours of the world’s leading football teams. Traditional rivals on the pitch are doing battle at some of the world’s greatest racetracks.

The series kicked off in 2008 with 12 ‘double-header’ races staged at six of Europe’s premier venues. Underlining the competitive nature of Superleague Formula, no fewer than eight soccer clubs (AC Milan, Al-Ain, Beijing Guoan FC, BVB Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool FC, FC Porto, PSV Eindhoven and Sevilla FC) experienced race victories during what was a dramatic inaugural campaign.
