2009 World Rally Championship – Round 9, after Leg 1
Neste Oil Rally Finland, July 30th to August 2nd, 2009.

Juho Hänninen proves himself with incredible consistency
Eight fastest times today and a convincing lead in Group N!

A convincing Group N lead for the Red Bull Rally Team after the opening leg of the Neste Oil Rally Finland, the ninth round of the World Rally Championship:

Juho Hänninen/Mikko Markkula (FIN) – Skoda Fabia S2000 – constantly extended their advantage today – and thus showcased an incredible consistency: Nine stages were on today’s schedule – Hänninen was able to win no less than eight of those, finishing second just once.

His advantage over his closest pursuer Anton Alen (FIN/Fiat Grande Punto S2000) has therefore increased to 53.8 seconds.

Also running very strongly today was Kimi Räikkönen (Fiat Grande Punto S2000), who even went faster than Alen on two stages, thus improving to fourth in Group N. His deficit to Hänninen: 1:32.4 minutes.

Juho Hänninen
: “More or less a perfect day. I still had some problems adjusting to the tyres in the morning, but then things went much better in the afternoon, I was able to increase the pace a little and extend the lead.”

Team boss Raimund Baumschlager:
“I’m very pleased that our car is really running without any problems at all. And I never had any doubts about Hänninen, the driver, anyway. But I also have to take off my hat to Räikkönen. He’s simply lightning fast on a terrain that’s unfamiliar to him.”

The rally will already be resumed at 7.13 a.m. local time tomorrow with SS 11. A total of nine special stages will be run.
