Alors que de nombreux invités sont réunis sur le circuit du Mans à l'occasion de la soirée de remise des prix 2009, et au moment-même où la saison passée est définitivement close, le calendrier 2010 complet est enfin dévoilé. Cinq courses pour cette septième saison, et des nouveautés.
Tout d'abord, la course d'ouverture de la saison se déroulera sur le circuit du Castellet sur une durée de 8 heures. Ensuite, après le succès de la course de nuit sur le circuit de Portimão en 2009, l'expérience sera renouvelée et renforcée avec deux épreuves nocturnes : toujours en Algarve, puis en Hongrie.
Les 1000 Km de Spa-Francorchamps et de Silverstone, ancrés dans la tradition Le Mans Series, conservent leur format et leur date.

Les 8 Heures du Castellet (9/10/11 Avril)
La première course de la saison Le Mans Series 2010 aura lieu sur le circuit du Castellet, dans le sud de la France, les 9, 10 et 11 avril prochains. Ce circuit à la fois ultra moderne et fortement ancré dans l'histoire du sport automobile, qui vient juste de rouvrir ses portes au public, accueille depuis 2004 les Essais Officiels de la série, comme ce sera encore le cas cette année, les 7 et 8 mars.
A course exceptionnelle, format exceptionnel ! L'ouverture de la saison ne se fera pas selon le schéma habituel de 1000 Km (ou 6 heures), mais durera 8 heures avec un départ donné en fin de matinée, pour une arrivée au coucher du soleil, vers 19 heures.
Précisons que cette manche octroiera le même nombre de points qu'une course de 6 heures, puisque seules comptent double les épreuves dépassant de 50% la distance habituelle de 1000 Km.
Les 1000 Km de Spa Francorchamps (7/8/9 Mai)
Cette course est désormais un rendez-vous incontournable pour tous les amateurs d'Endurance. Toujours organisée au mois de Mai, elle est le dernier rendez-vous sur la piste avant la grand-messe des 24 Heures du Mans.
La piste belge, sinueuse et vallonnée, constitue un grand challenge pour les pilotes mais aussi pour les mécaniques, et reste définitivement l'un des circuits préférés de tous les amoureux de sport automobile.
Devant un public toujours nombreux et enthousiaste, la grille de départ est très souvent la plus fournie de toute la saison. Cette année, la tradition de l'épreuve belge ne fera certainement pas défaut.
Les 1000 Km de l'Algarve (15/16/17 Juillet)
Première édition réussie en 2009 sur les terres portugaises : ambiance estivale, circuit high tech, public présent…tout était réuni pour faire de ce rendez-vous l'un des must de la série !
Retour donc sur le circuit de Portimão pour les concurrents Le Mans Series, qui auront eu le temps de se remettre de l'épreuve sarthoise et seront fin prêts pour cette course de nuit.
Les 1000 Km du Hungaroring (21/22 Aout)
Autre grande première pour Le Mans Series : sa venue en Hongrie. Cette course, qui se déroulera sur deux jours, sera la seconde épreuve de nuit de la saison.
Le circuit du Hungaroring, situé à 19 Km de Budapest, est surnommé le "Tourniquet". Long de 4,381 Km, il est étroit et très sinueux. Suivant une vallée naturelle et basée à flancs de coteaux, cette situation naturelle permet à 80% du circuit d'être visible de quasiment n'importe quel endroit pour les spectateurs installés autour.
Ce sera donc une grande première pour les teams, qui découvriront, au cours de cette épreuve nocturne, la vie en Hongrie… "by night" !
Les Autosport 1000 Km de Silverstone (10/11/12 Septembre)
Autre grande classique pour Le Mans Series, les Autosport 1000 Km de Silverstone. Traditionnellement instaurée comme la manche finale de la saison, l'édition 2010 ne déroge pas à la règle. Course de jour, et sur trois jours, l'épreuve britannique est toujours celle de tous les défis pour les teams et les pilotes, à l'instar de Jean-Christophe Boullion en 2009 qui avait forcé l'admiration de tous en réussissant une remontée incroyable pour tenter coûte que coûte de remporter la victoire, jusqu'au dernier moment. La terre anglaise, témoin des assauts de ces héros du sport automobile. Très Shakespearien, isn't it ?
