Wright seeking Rotax stars to complete 2010 SWR line-up

08.01.2010: Stuart Wright Racing is looking for Rotax drivers to complete its karting line-up ahead of its inaugural season of competition in 2010, with highly-respected mechanic Wright promising that ‘no corners have been cut in any area’ as he endeavours

Stuart Wright Racing is looking for Rotax drivers to complete its karting line-up ahead of its inaugural season of competition in 2010, with highly-respected mechanic Wright promising that ‘no corners have been cut in any area’ as he endeavours to offer ‘the best service out there’ without an elevated price tag to match.

SWR intends to conduct a full British programme this year at both MSA and Rotax level – comprising Formula Kart Stars (FKS), Super 1, Kartmasters and the ‘O’ Plate – as well as club meetings at PF International, Shenington, Kimbolton and Whilton Mill when no clashes occur, and the European qualifiers and finals.

Reigning Kartmasters Champion Jordan King (KF2) and rising stars Roy Johnson and Charlie Robertson (both KF3) are already confirmed at the team, leaving room for one more MSA contender and a complement of Rotax competitors.

“We decided to go with Stuart knowing that he has lots of knowledge about junior and senior karts,” revealed Johnson, who made history in 2008 by clinching all four major British crowns – Super 1, BRDC Stars of Tomorrow, Kartmasters and the ‘O’ Plate – in the Cadet class.

“Since joining, I have learned a lot about carb settings and also about driving styles in different conditions. Stuart always puts everything he has into the team, and being with SWR has certainly been a confidence boost for me and helped to bring me on as a driver. I’m really looking forward to the season ahead now!”

Indeed, Wright boasts an impressive two decades’ experience in the sport both on home turf and internationally – having initially started out as a driver himself before turning his hand to mechanic duties – and has an enviable career CV from his stints in a number of top teams, JRP Maranello included.

In 2007 he helped Max Goff to Monaco Kart Cup and Bridgestone Cup glory as well as the runner-up spot in the JICA (now KF3) class of BRDC Stars of Tomorrow, and since then he has been instrumental in engineering King to the 2008 British Mini Max Vice-Champion laurels, 2009 Kartmasters and CIK-FIA Asia-Pacific KF3 Championship trophies and podium finishes in the fiercely-contested WSK International Series. It is, by any standards, a phenomenal record.

“I originally started thinking about doing this four years ago,” the 31-year-old revealed, patently enthusiastic about having turned his dream into a reality, “but it’s only now that I feel fully ready to actually go ahead and do it. I’ve just been making sure everything is in-place so that the team is built perfectly, with no corners cut in any area.

“SWR will be a professional team offering the best service out there, but importantly without ripping people off. I can offer the benefit of 20 years’ experience in karting, and a proven track record of results that vouch for my commitment.

“I’m aiming to have a blend of experienced and less experienced drivers in the team, and for the less experienced ones, getting them out in club meetings is where they will really learn their craft. PFi, Shenington, Kimbolton and Whilton Mill are all circuits that are used regularly at national level and usually have competitive grids, too, so all the practice and track time there should ultimately pay dividends in terms of preparation for the bigger events. We are going to be out pretty much all the time!

“Everything is perfect finally, from the preparation to the awning to the appearance of the team. I can’t wait to get going now – I’m the most excited person in the world at the moment!”

SWR will be based in Banbury, Oxfordshire, and with space limited, the awning places will be allocated strictly on a first come, first served basis. If you are interested, please call Stuart on 07789 957018
