Volkswagen feiert fünften Etappensieg - drei Race Touareg vorn

12.01.2010: Die Spanier Carlos Sainz/Lucas Cruz (E/E) bauten mit ihrem ersten Etappensieg bei der Rallye Dakar 2010 – dem fünften von Volkswagen in diesem Jahr – ihren Vorsprung in der Gesamtwertung vor ihren beiden Teamkollegen



Die Spanier Carlos Sainz/Lucas Cruz (E/E) bauten mit ihrem ersten Etappensieg bei der Rallye Dakar 2010 – dem fünften von Volkswagen in diesem Jahr – ihren Vorsprung in der Gesamtwertung vor ihren beiden Teamkollegen aus. Nasser Al-Attiyah/Timo Gottschalk (Q) liegt als Zweiter nun 10.06 Minuten hinter der Spitze, Mark Miller/Ralph Pitchford (USA/ZA) im dritten Race Touareg folgt mit 28.19 Minuten Abstand auf den Führenden.



Auf den schmalen Bergpässen von La Serena nach Santiago war der frühere Rallye-Weltmeister Sainz ganz in seinem Element. Steinige Böden, enge Kehren, viele Bremsmanöver - die Anforderungen erinnerten teilweise eher an die Rallye-WM als an eine Wüstenrallye. Dennoch war seine Aufgabe alles andere als Routine: Sainz gewann die zehnte Etappe des Wüsten-Klassikers im Race Touareg mit 28 Sekunden Vorsprung vor Stéphane Peterhansel/Jean-Paul Cottret (F/F) im X-raid-BMW.

Ein weiterer Gegner im Kampf um den Tagessieg war Volkswagen Teamkollege Mark Miller, der nach 148 von insgesamt 238 Kilometern sogar geführt hatte. Der Amerikaner belegte im Tagesziel Platz drei vor seinem Teamkollegen Nasser Al-Attiyah.

In der Gesamtwertung der Veranstaltung liegt das Volkswagen Trio nach zehn von 14 Etappen mit deutlichem Vorsprung an der Spitze: Stéphane Peterhansel/Jean-Paul Cottret (F/F) haben als Vierte im X-raid-BMW 2:14.20 Stunden Rückstand.

"Das war heute eine Prüfung wie bei Sprintrallyes. Wir hatten die Fahrzeuge neu abgestimmt und eine passende Charakteristik für die Dämpfer von ZF Sachs gewählt. Die Autos waren dadurch sehr wendig und schnell. Mein Glückwunsch geht nicht nur an die Fahrer, sondern auch an ihre Copiloten. Heute war auch die Navigation recht knifflig. Wir können mit den Ergebnissen sehr zufrieden sein, dürfen aber nicht vergessen, dass es noch ein langer Weg bis ins Ziel ist. Alle müssen weiter perfekt arbeiten."
