Questnet-Meritus GP Partnership set to continue after stunning season
24.03.2010: Luca Filippi’s stunning victory at the Bahrain Grand Prix underlined what QuestNet™ has known all along – that MERITUS-GP is the premier motorsports team in Asia and their partnership looks set to continue.
Luca Filippi’s stunning victory at the Bahrain Grand Prix underlined what QuestNet™ has known all along – that MERITUS-GP is the premier motorsports team in Asia and their partnership looks set to continue.
Filippi’s historic victory in the GP2 Asia Series meant that Malaysia’s MERITUS-GP team became the first Asian team to win a GP2 race.
“Here’s one for QI, one for QI-Meritus, one for Bahrain and one for Malaysia in line with Malaysia being one. We have always felt that team Malaysia QI-MeritusMahara.com is a No. 1 racing team of its class and now the rest of the world can see what we have always known,” said Dato’ Vijay Eswaran, the Executive Chairman of QI Group of Companies – the conglomerate of which QuestNet™ is a flagship brand.
This is the third year since the inception of the GP2 Asia Racing Series that QuestNet™ is sponsoring MERITUS-GP.
Filippi’s win and second place in the champions, also caught the eye of Malaysia Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Bin Tun Haji Abdul Razak,, who said: “I congratulate and am proud of our home grown Malaysian team on its success in GP2, the F1 development series..
“MERITUS-GP and its Malaysian sponsors Questnet’s win at the Bahrain Grand Prix in the GP2 Asia Championships is proof of the team’s professionalism and the technical ability of our engineers.”
Pathman Senathirajah, Managing Director of The V, the marketing and training arm of QI Group of Companies who was present at a press conference today said: “Filippi’s skills impressed everyone and we took great delight in his victory.
“Alexander Rossi also gave an impressive performance, making a notable comeback after his disappointment at the previous rounds held at BIC, during the last weekend of February. It’s the team’s first win after three years of participation in GP2 Asia and it has rightly been described as a dream win for team Malaysia QI-MeritusMahara.com,” Pathman added.
QuestNet™ – a Hong-Kong-based direct selling brand with global operations (covering, among others, the Middle East, Africa and Asia) – is a keen sponsor of motorsport, according to Pathman because there is a clear relation between motorsport and the direct selling industry.
“In both instances it requires performance, focus, passion, a winning attitude, and last but not least, teamwork, to get ahead,” said Pathman.
MERITUS-GP co-owner Firhat Mokhzani and team founder Peter Thompson added the team is now working closely with GP2 CEO Bruno Michel about the possible entry to the main series in 2011.
“The main GP2 series will support 15 of the 19 Formula 1 races and we are holding discussions about our entry to Europe. The team had been invited by Michel to race in Europe even before we achieved our historic victory.
“Now that we have shown we are capable of winning, we will look into the possibility of taking up the offer,” said Firhat, who as head of driver development, has masterminded each of the team’s 34 titles it has won in the last 13 years.
“Racing in Europe will certainly race the team’s profile and by competing in the main GP2 series, we will get more exposure racing alongside the F1 championship for only a fraction of the cost.”
