Der Österreicher, bisher in der britischen Formel 3 Meisterschaft unterwegs, startet heuer im Rahmen der World Series by Renault 3,5 Liter Teamkollege bei seinem neuen Team P1 ist der Tscheche Jan Charouz




Der 21-jährige Österreicher Walter Grubmüller, im vergangenen Jahr Vize-Meister in der britischen Formel 3 Meisterschaft, wird heuer auf allen neun Stationen der World Series by Renault 3,5 Liter, zu sehen sein.

Vater Walter Grubmüller senior: „Es war für uns der nächste logische Schritt um Walter die Möglichkeit zu geben, sich in einer höheren und stärkeren Rennformel  zu etablieren.“

Man hat den kompletten Monat März dafür verwendet, die offiziellen Testfahrten der Serie, in Barcelona, in Jerez und in Aragon zu nützen. Eingesetzt wurde der Wagen vom Team P1, das im Besitz von Vater Walter Grubmüller steht. Das Team ist derzeit bei Hethel Engineering, in Norfolk unter gebracht. Teambetreiber ist der Brite Roly Vincini, insgesamt werden zwei Dallara Renault VQ35, V6, 24 V 3498 ccm, eingesetzt. Teampartner von Walter Grubmüller wird der 23-jährige Tscheche Jan Charouz sein, der bisher hauptsächlich im Sportwagenbereich tätig war.

Bei allen Testfahrten war zu erkennen, dass die Konkurrenz äußerst stark ist und zumindest die ersten zehn Positionen im Bereich einer Sekunde liegen. Grubmüller war zumeist innerhalb der TopTen Piloten vertreten. Seine beste Leistung bot er trotz heftiger Grippe am letzten Wochenende in Aragon, wo er in den vier offiziellen Testfahrten jeweils einmal den dritten Platz, den fünften Platz, den neunten und den zehnten Rang belegen konnte. Der tschechische Teamkollege von Grubmüller bei P1, Jan Charouz, wurde einmal Neunter, dann Zweiter, einmal Siebenter und zum Abschluss wieder Neunter. 

Trotzdem zog Walter Grubmüller eine eher realistische Bilanz über die gesamten Testfahrten: „Der Umstieg in diese Rennserie ist schon beachtlich. Statt 210 PS haben wir jetzt 450 PS zur Verfügung. Damit wird die Sache schon recht schnell. Um in dieser jetzigen Serie ganz an die Spitze zu kommen, werden wir noch hart zu arbeiten haben. Das Ziel für die ersten Rennen sollte es sein, in die Punkteränge zu kommen und sich damit eine gute Ausgangsbasis zu schaffen.“
