IRC and ACM Press Conference on Friday 27 June

A press conference regarding the 2009 Monte Carlo Rally will take place at 14:30 on Friday 27 June, on the Ypres Rally media centre at the Novotel hotel in Ypres. Representatives from the Automobile Club de Monaco and the IRC will present the programme and latest news of the opening round of the 2009 Intercontinental Rally Challenge.

Betti and Pirelli to compete with Peugeot

IRC regular Luca Betti will drive a Peugeot 207 S2000 running on Pirelli tyres for the rest of the season. The car will be run by a new Italian team, F.R. Special Cars, and will use Pirelli rubber.

Betti – whose previous exploits have included fifth overall on the Rallye du Valais last year in a two-wheel drive Honda – had the chance to carry out a very short test with the car this week, but he will have to treat his debut with the Peugeot in Ypres next week as a learning experience.

"I’m delighted to have the chance to drive this car, but there will be a lot to get used to. Ypres is a very specialised event so it is not the ideal place to be learning a new car, but we will see what we can do."

Mario Isola, Pirelli’s Rally Manager, added: "We will bring a wide range of tyres to Ypres, as anything can happen with the weather. It’s an event where the right tyre can make a big difference, so we’re all hoping for a good result with Luca and our other drivers."

Snijers tests Peugeot

Belgian rally legend Patrick Snijers has tested the Kronos Racing Peugeot 207 S2000 that he will use on the Ypres Rally, his prize for winning the BFGoodrich Drivers’ Team seat for his home round of the IRC next week.

The Belgian, one of the most successful drivers in the history of the Ypres Rally, was voted for by a jury of 16 local journalists and will drive car number 17. Despite his years of experience, it was the first time that he had driven a Super 2000 car.

"I was really pleased with my first taste of it," said Snijers. "We progressively went through all the settings and now I have a really good feeling with the car. I know I’ve got a good package behind me so it’s just up to me to accumulate more kilometres – which I will do during the shakedown – in order to start with confidence and determination."

Snijers, co-driven on this occasion by Wim Soenens, will be one of the favourites for victory on the Belgian event.
