It was an interesting weekend in Holice. Michael Mercandino (P.V.D. Racing) from Italy took his first EMX2 European Championship win and Andrea Cervellin (Husqvarna Cross 2 R) took the red plate.
Winner of the Qualifying race Giacomo Del Segato (MAX Team) started fast but had a bad crash in the first lap and finished without points. Finnish rider Jon Soderberg took the holeshot, then finished the race already in the second lap. It was a great beginning for Italian Samuel Zeni (Zeni Racing). He was leading in front of Steven Lenoir (VAMO Racing) and Andrea Cervellin. Zeni had already big advantage which was not enough for Steven Lenoir. French rider was just too fast in the first race. Lenoir won in front of Cervellin. Italian Michael Mercandino had a bad start in the first race but he finished third after a successful race.
Mercandino had a great second race. He was leading from the start and won. Second was Swiss rider Valentin Guillod (KTM Swiss). This is another success for Guillod after a podium in Greece. He was holding second position through the whole race. Third was Jozef Kulhavy (Slovakia). Andrea Cervellin and Steven Lenoir did not repeat top results from the first race. For Lenoir fifth place was enough that he finished on podium. But Cervellin finished out of top three on fourth place.
After all changes in the second race, Michael Mercandino won the Czech round for the UEM EMX2 European Championship. Steven Lenoir was second overall and he became third in the Championship Classification. Valentin Guillod finished third. Andrea Cervellin and Jernej Irt, both Husqvarna riders changed positions on the top.
Irt lost the red plate when he crashed in the first race and did not finish. So Cervellin is new leader and his advantage in front of Irt is 21 points already. Irt is second, Lenoir is third, Luke Hawkins (Great Britain) is fourth and Pier Filippo Bertuzzo (Massignani Racing School) is fifth. Bertuzzo lost two positions. He crashed in the second race and did not get any point, so Hawkins and Lenoir overtook him.
Next weekend riders will compete in Senkvice, Slovakia.
RIDER'S COMMENTS
1st – MICHAEL MERCANDINO (Italy): “I am very content with the weekend. The bike was working perfect. I saw this track for the first time and I like it because it is fast and technical. Second race was easier, I took the lead immediately. I will not make the complete championship because I still gain experience but I hope this podium was not the last one.”
2nd – STEVEN LENOIR (France): “I am glad to finish on podium again. Yesterday it was difficult, I did not have a right feeling. Today I chose a good line in the warm up so it was easier during the race. I won the first race. In second race I crashed immediately at the beginning, just after the starting grid. But I was able to come in front. Track was difficult. Thank to suspension my Suzuki was perfect for the race. Thank to my team for everything.”
3rd – VALENTIN GUILLOD (Switzerland): “Track was technically very difficult and hard also. Anyway I had a good weekend here in Holice, I finished on podium again. I am very happy for this result. I did not take a good start but I was racing better. I would like thank to my uncle and mechanics, they helped me to gain this success. The temperature was good for racing today, yesterday was really too hot.”
