Rally Poland gets underway

08.06.2008: Rally Poland gets underway

Rally Poland, one of the eight IRC Supporter Events that has registered so far, has got underway from its base in Mikolajki. The all-gravel event, which is being run for the 65th time this year, is one of the oldest rallies in the world and has a massively popular following, thanks to some spectacular scenery through the heart of Polish rally territory.

Local Mitsubishi Lancer driver Michal Bebenek, co-driven by Grzegorz Bebenek, claimed an early advantage by winning the opening stages and maintaining his advantage through until Sunday morning. Bryan Bouffier is second, while another Polish driver – Michal Kosciuszko – held third until crashing on Sunday morning with no serious consequences: both are driving a Peugeot 207 S2000.

The IRC supporter event programme is designed for national events to benefit from the IRC brand by associating themselves with the series and all its values. The next IRC Supporter Event scheduled to take place after Poland is the Sata Rally Acores, which will run from June 3-5 on the Portuguese archipelago, around 1500 kilometres west of Lisbon.
