36 voitures, 29 teams, 12 nationalités, 13 constructeurs et pas moins de 86 pilotes déjà annoncés
Tous ces ingrédients présagent une saison de qualité! Les 36 prototypes & GT inscrits pour l'intégralité des cinq courses Le Mans Series seront confiés à des pilotes de renom et habitués de l'endurance, gage de la qualité de la série!
LM P1: Pescarolo, le retour & deux Rebellion en vue !
La catégorie reine sera cette saison de nouveau à l’honneur avec le retour du team Pescarolo. La bagarre pour le titre sera encore plus acharnée : six prototypes seront engagés à la saison parmi lesquels quatre modèles différents. A noter la forte présence du REBELLION RACING – 3ème l’an passé, avec deux voitures et la montée en grade du QUIFEL ASM TEAM, qui saute le pas cette saison en LM P1 !
PESCAROLO TEAM : RENAISSANCE ! Pour son grand retour, Henri Pescarolo, alignera une Pescarolo‐Judd. Elle sera confiée à Emmanuel Collard et Christophe Tinseau. Ce dernier était d’ailleurs présent à Portimão pour la dernière victoire du Team en 2009.
REBELLION RACING : OBJECTIF TITRE ! L’équipe suisse, motorisée cette année par un V8 Toyota de 3500 cm3 visera le titre et alignera deux Lola B10/60 coupé. Les pilotes ne seront autres que les équipages 2010, Nicolas Prost ‐ Neel Jani, et Andrea Belicchi ‐ Jean Christophe Bouillon, 3ème en 2010.
QUIFEL ASM TEAM : DANS LA COUR DES GRANDS ! Equipé cette saison d’une LM P1, le Quifel ASM Team, 6ème en LM P2 l’an passé, confiera le volant à Miguel Amaral et Olivier Pla, qui auront à coeur de reconquérir leur titre 2009 LM P2.
NOUVEAUTES 2011 : GUESS RACING EUROP, le team belge dont la Lola B05/40 à moteur Mazda AER, sera pilotée par Philippe Hazebrouck et Wolfgang Kaufmann. RANGONI MOTORSPORT, confiera sa Zytek 09 Hybrid, à Ferdinando Geri et Luca Rangoni.
LM P2 : Match NISSAN / HDP
Plusieurs fois à l’honneur l’an passé, les LM P2 joueront à coup sur les trouble‐fête. L’engagement de dix LM P2 parmi lesquelles pas moins de neuf modèles, annoncent une saison à rebondissements. RML et STRAKKA RACING, motorisés par HONDA Performance Development visent le titre. Greaves Motorsport, Boutsen Energy Racing et TDS équipés de moteur Nissan assureront également le spectacle.
RML : les vainqueurs LM P2 2010 remettent leur titre en jeu avec Mike Newton, Tommy Erdos et Ben Collins, non plus avec une Lola mais avec une HPD ARX – 01d. L’équipage de pointe tentera de confirmer sa victoire 2010.
STRAKKA RACING : avec deux superbes performances en 2010, Nick Leventis, Danny Watts et Jonny Kane viseront fermement le titre, avec leur HPD ARX ‐01d.
GREAVES MOTORSPORT : ANCIENNEMENT TEAM BRUICHLADDICH ! Changement de nom, mais l’équipe conservera sa monture 2010, avec une Zytek Z11SN à moteur Nissan. Karim Ojjeh, Gary Chalandon, que l’on a vu évoluer en FLM l’an passé, et Thor‐ Christian Ebbesvik se partageront le baquet.
PECOM RACING : EQUIPAGE ARGENTIN ! Luis Perez Companc et Matias Russo, piloteront cette saison une LM P2. Fort de son expérience en LM GT2 les années passées, l’équipage originaire des contrées de Juan Manuel Fangio, compte bien jouer les trouble‐fêtes !
TEAM LNT : DE P1 A P2 : Engagé en LM P1 en 2010, le team LNT, tentera sa chance cette année en LM P2 avec une Radical SR9 – IES. Les pilotes seront Lawrence Tomlinson, James Cole et Andrew Prendeville.
BOUTSEN ENERGY RACING : UNE LM P2 POUR 2011 ! 3ème en Formula Le Mans l’an passé, l’équipe belge fait le pari cette saison de changer de catégorie. Avec une Oreca 03‐Nissan, Dominik Kraihamer et Nicolas De Crem auront une carte à jouer en 2011.
PEGASUS RACING : Déjà présente en 2010, l’équipe alignera une Courage Oreca LC 75 – motorisation HPD. A ce jour un seul pilote a été annoncé : Julien Schell.
EXTREME LIMITE AM PARIS : Equipé d’une Norma M200P à moteur Judd, la voiture sera pilotée par Fabien Rosier. Les autres pilotes seront annoncés prochainement.
TOP DRIVE SERVICES : NOUVEAU CHALLENGE ! Engagé jusqu’alors en WSR, le team se tourne cette saison vers l’endurance. Châssis Oreca 03 équipé d'un moteur Nissan, le proto sera aux mains du jeune Mathias Beche, pilote FLM en 2010 et Pierre Thiriet, redoutable en Eurocup Mégane Trophy.
RACE PERFORMANCE : La 3ème Oreca 03‐Judd du plateau sera confiée à Michel Frey et Ralph Meichtry.
RLR MSPORT : Pilote et propriétaire du team, Barry Gates s'engage avec Rob Garofall sur une MG Lola EX265 AER.
Conformément a la réglementation ACO 2011, la catégorie, LM GT1 disparaît totalement des courses d’endurance longue distance, et les LM GT2 sont remplacées par les LM GTE Pro et les LM GTE Am.
LM GTE Pro : Porsche, Ferrari ou Aston Martin ?
Pour sa 1ère année d’existence la catégorie LM GTE Pro attirera trois constructeurs de prestige : Porsche, Ferrari et Aston Martin. Nous retrouverons là principalement les teams professionnels de GT.
TEAM FELBERMAYR PROTON : remet son titre GT en jeu avec l’équipage vainqueur LM GT2 2010, Marc Lieb et Richard Lietz sur une Porsche 911 RSR (997).
IMSA PERFORMANCE MATMUT, alignera également une Porsche 911 RSR (997) pour Patrick Pilet et Wolf Henzler.
PROSPEED COMPETITION confiera au jeune et talentueux Marco Holzer, associé à Marc Goossens, une Porsche 911 RSR (997).
GRUPPEM ETERNITI RACING : nouveau venu en Le Mans Series, le team engagera la 4ème Porsche 911 RSR (997) du plateau et, à ce jour, n’a annoncé que Stephen Jelley parmi ses pilotes.
Du côté de Ferrari, AF CORSE, l’équipe dauphine du titre LM GT2 2010, alignera deux F458 Italia, dont l’une sera pilotée par Giancarlo Fisichella, le 3ème homme de la Scuderia Ferrari F1. Il sera cette saison, pour ainsi dire, l’ambassadeur Le Mans Series.
JMW MOTORSPORT : après une année en Aston Martin, JMW Motorsport revient sur Ferrari avec Rob Bell. Les autres pilotes seront annoncés prochainement.
HANKOOK TEAM FARNBACHER : engagera la 4ème F458 Italia du plateau, avec Dominik Farnbacher et Allan Simonsen.
JOTA, pour son retour, choisit Aston Martin et la Vantage pour Sam Hancock et Simon Dolan.
LM GTE Am
Fidèle à Ferrari, CRS RACING, sur une F430, conservera son équipage de pointe avec Phil Quaife et Michael Lyons. Même chose, pour AF CORSE, avec Piergiuseppe Perazzini et Marco Cioci, et JMB RACING avec Manuel Rodrigues et Dino Lunardi.
Du côté des spécialistes Porsche, deux 911 RSR (997) seront sur la grille dans cette catégorie. Une pour le Team Felbermayr Proton et une autre pour IMSA Performance Matmut avec Raymond Narac et le très rapide Nicolas Armindo.
FLM : Plateau ORECA
Intégrée en 2010 dans la discipline Le Mans Series, la catégorie FLM ne compte pas moins de cinq prototypes construits par le groupe Oreca cette saison.
Nous retrouverons HOPE POLEVISION RACING avec Michael Tinguely. Le NEIL GARNER MOTORSPORT et le GENOA RACING, avec Eric Lux, Elton Julian, Christian Zugel, et JMB RACING avec Maurice Basso. PEGASUS RACING, engagé également en LM P2, alignera un proto FLM, piloté par Mirco Schultis et Patrick Simon.

Le MICHELIN GREEN X CHALLENGE récompensera de nouveau cette année la meilleure performance énergétique en course. Rappelons qu’en 2010, c’est Strakka Racing qui l’emportait dans la catégorie prototypes, et IMSA Performance Matmut en GT.
A ne pas oublier : à l’issue de la saison 2011, les deux premiers de chaque catégorie recevront une invitation officielle aux 24 Heures du Mans, excepté en FLM (invité en LMP2), où seul le premier est concerné. Le premier classé dans le Challenge Michelin Green X en prototype, et en GT, recevra également cette enviable invitation.
