Makowiecki completes Marc VDS driver line-up for 2011
08.02.2011: The Marc VDS Racing Team today completed their driver line up for the 2011 GT1 World Championship, with Frédéric Makowiecki joining the team to race alongside Maxime Martin, Bas Leinders and Marc Hennerici.
The Marc VDS Racing Team today completed their driver line up for the 2011 GT1 World Championship, with Frédéric Makowiecki joining the team to race alongside Maxime Martin, Bas Leinders and Marc Hennerici.
Third in the GT1 Driver's Championship in 2010, this season Makowiecki will partner Maxime Martin in the Marc VDS Racing Team's #41 Ford GT, while Bas Leinders will be joined by another new signing for 2011, Marc Hennerici, in the #40 car.
"I am very happy to be joining the Marc VDS Racing Team after a good first season in which I finished third in the championship," said Makowiecki. "I hope that this year we can do even better and fight for the championship title."
Makowiecki, together with Marc VDS teammates Leinders, Martin and Hennerici, will start the familiarisation process with the 2011 Ford GT during a two-day test at the Portimao circuit in Portugal, scheduled for 14th and 15th February.
"Last year I fought against the Ford GT on track, and the car looks to have a good chassis, but I guess I'll find out for myself at the Portimao test next week. I'm very much looking forward to the test, during which I hope to complete as many laps as possible," concluded the 30-year-old French driver.
"Obviously we are very pleased to have signed a driver of Frédéric's calibre for the coming season," stated Jean-Michel Delporte, General Manager of the Marc VDS Racing Team. "For me, the two revelations of the 2010 GT1 series were Maxime Martin and Frédéric Makowiecki, so to have them driving together in our Ford GT is truly an exciting prospect, both for the team and for the championship.
With Frédéric, Maxime, Marc and Bas I think we now have a perfect combination of youth and experience that will see the Marc VDS Racing Team more competitive in this, the second season of the GT1 World Championship."
"Frédéric is another vital addition to our racing family, as we head into the new season with the goal of fighting for the overall GT1 World Championship title," declared Marc van der Straten, President of the Marc VDS Racing Team.
"Our initial aim was to start the season with four drivers capable of winning races and, with Bas, Maxime, Frédéric and Marc, I think we have taken a big step towards this. We will see how everything comes together during the Portimao test later this month, but already I'm looking forward to the new season with some confidence."
