Pasquale Di Sabatino joins Ombra Racing
Al Pasquale Di Sabatino will be on the grid of the Auto GP 2011 opening round in Monza, set to start on May 13. The Italian driver reached an agreement with Ombra Racing, securing the seat of one of the cars prepared by the team managed by Davide Mazzoleni.
A 23 years-old, Di Sabatino is used to high-powered cars: after debuting on a single-seater in 2005, winning the F.Junior 1600 Italian Championship, the following year he committed to Ws by Renault despite being just 17; he raced in that championship until 2009, clinching one win and three podium finishes.
Now, with Auto GP, Di Sabatino aims to make the final qualitative leap, jumping on a car that is recognized by the drivers as the closest to GP2, both in terms of performance and driving style. With Auto GP, Pasquale will challenge some of the best talents in motorsport for wins, prize money and even a prize GP2 test.
Enzo Coloni: “I’m really happy that Di Sabatino chose Auto GP to make his last steps towards top-notch motorsport. He already showed that even in the most competitive grids he can fight for race wins and that high powered cars feel very natural to him, so I’m sure that he will quickly find the right pace in Auto GP”.
Davide Mazzoleni (Ombra Racing): “Di Sabatino has a lot of experience, so we are confident that finding a good working method with him will be easy, and that a few laps will be enough for him to get acquainted with the Auto GP car. From our side, we will give our best as Monza is our home race and we really want a good result there”.
Pasquale Di Sabatino: “I’m really satisfied of this choice and very excited for the season that is about to start. Coming from a long stop I look forward to jumping in the car, even if I know that making the most of it won’t be easy, at least at the beginning.
I’m also very proud of taking part in a Series that is organized by the same man who made Gabriele Tarquini debut in F.1, as I’m from the same region of Italy as Gabriele, this will be a further boost for me. Last but not least, I want to say a big thank you to the people that supported me, allowing me to reach this agreement. I will try to reward them with some great performances on track”.
