Bulgarian round of MX3 – QUICK FACTS Circuit lenght: 1 650 metres Type of ground: hard pack Temperature: 22 °C Weather conditions: sunny
Third round of MX3 FIM Motocross World Championship moved to Bulgary for this weekend. UEM 65cc class and 85cc class round take part at the same track. Heavy rain has changed all the plans in the morning. Fortunately, weather went better at the noon and first practices could start. The best time in Qualifying Practice belong to Czech rider Martin Michek.
After rich shower in the morning Troyan circuit turned to muddy pool, but afternoon sun helps to create ideal track conditions for Qualifying Practice. Czech rider Martin Michek on his KTM became the fastest man of Qualifying. In addition, Michek acquired his first pole position in World Championship.
Martin Michek: „I got pole position for a first time during riding in MX3. On the other rounds I was always at second and third places. Now I can choose the best place on a starting line. I thing that I´ll choose something more on the left, closer to the inner side of the first turn. But it will depend also on conditions. If there will be mud or rain I´ll deicide completely differently. The track is getting dryer, dryer and dryer , what is a good sign. Better for me. I wish tomorrow won´t rain. I don´t mind even 30 degrees and sunshine, but weather is very changeable here so we will see. I´ll do my best and will give all to this race. I hope it will be good for me.”
Ride of Slovenian Mateuz Irt looks a little bit agressive, but on the other side very fast too. Anyway he has to be satisfied with the second place on starting line. The gap between first two riders was only 0,2 secs. Irt was catching up with Michek and fastest riders in the front all the time and he looks to be well prepared to be on a podium tomorrow.
Mateuz Irt: „I´m happy with my second position in qualifying training. I did my best and I would like to continue with this tomorrow too. I really don´t know, if I would be on a podium, but I´ll try it for sure.”
Michael Staufer was finding the right winning stroke from the begining of the season. Bulgarian track fits to his riding style. He feels comfortable on bike and all of this is reflecting in today´s results. Third position worthily belongs to him and he is now right motivated to be on a podium.
Michael Staufer: „I´m bit disappointed, because I lost a pole position. Just half of second there was between me and Martin. But yes, Martin was really fast. There are more lines to choose tomorrow, so I hope that I´ll win the start. Usually I´m very good at starts. I´ll take a start line more in inside and try to make a good race.”
Finnish rider Antti Pyrhönen and another three guys riding also on Honda motorbikes were fighting for the fourth position for tommorow. Antti in his eleventh lap of qualifying achieved his best time of the day and this pushed him to fourth place.
The closest rider to Antti, his main rival today, Günter Schmidinger crossed finish line at fifth place. Definitely it is not bad position to Race 1 on Sunday. He was defending attacks of another Slovenian Klemen Gercar succesfully. UFO Racing Team rider Klemen Gercar got sixth position.
First in Free Practice and very good lap times in Qualifying Practice has Dutch rider Ceriel Klein Kromhof. He finished seventh. The second Finnish rider and Antti´s teammate Ludvig Söderberg obtained eight place. Petr Bartos and Lukasz Lonka were closing the first top ten riders of day.
MX3 Qualifying Practice results - 1. Martin Michek (CZE, KTM), 1:43.704; 2. Matevz Irt (SLO, Suzuki), +0:00.261; 3. Michael Staufer (AUT, KTM), +0:00.682; 4.
