Top 10 for Ken De Dycker in Uddevalla

Top 10 for Ken De Dycker in Uddevalla

03.07.2012: FIM MX1 Motocross World Championship, Round 9 – GP of Sweden Red Bull-KTM rider Ken De Dycker finished ninth overall in Uddevalla

FIM MX1 Motocross World Championship, Round 9 – GP of Sweden

Red Bull-KTM rider Ken De Dycker finished ninth overall in Uddevalla for the Grand Prix of Sweden, the ninth round of sixteen in the 2012 FIM MX1 World Championship. After a well-deserved victory at home in muddy Kester, the slushy Uddevalla was less kind for the popular Belgian. Ken rests fifth in the MX1 standings.

The former British MX1 champion came to Scandinavia determined to end his run of bad luck in recent GP’s. Unfortunately the weekend got off on the wrong foot for De Dycker who crashed during the pre-qualifying session. and During the qualifying race he had to enter the pitlane to change his goggles. In the end Ken came home fourteenth.

On Sunday the track layout had been significantly roughed up by showers. De Dycker’s faith in the opening MX1 moto was sealed by the first corner. This crash meant another trip to the pitlane to repair a stuck clutch lever.

Dead last and several seconds adrift of the pack Keeno gritted his teeth showed and pulled through to 11th, scoring 10 points. Posting the third fastest lap time of the moto only confirmed his speed and illustrated painstakingly clear what might have been...

Once again the tall Belgian was the victim of a first corner melee in the second moto. Twenty-eight year old De Dycker was facing an uphill task to collect as many points as possible. Ken rose from 24th to 12th after 20 minutes. While he easily passed Dutchman De Reuver for 11th, the factory KTM rider ran out of time to catch Davide Guarneri.

Ken De Dycker: “A lot of bad luck, but not a lot of variation... Three times I crashed this weekend, all three of them were quite painful. Uddevalla was by all means the worst race of the season. After I came in to fix the clutch lever I could come back all right. Again I went down in moto 2.

My fingers hurt and felt numb for the first couple of laps. After that I regained my rhythm. Given the circumstances 11th was okay. Results like those in Sweden are a long way from where I want to be. All elements are in place I only need a bit of luck... Urgently please!”
