The 2013 East African Safari Classic rally route has now been confirmed. Encompassing a total competitive distance of 1759 kilometres through some of the world’s most famous national parks in Kenya and Tanzania, this year’s rally will take in 26 stages covering a total route distance of 3823 kilometres.

Kicking off with the 85 kilometre Matope 1 stage west of Mombasa on Thursday 21 November, the Tuthill drivers will cover 217 competitive kilometres on the opening day.

Day two will begin with the 37 kilometre Ndi 2 stage which is set east of the famed Serengeti plains. The crews will then drive a road liaison distance of 187 kilometres through the vast Tsavo National Park in order to reach the start of the 116 kilometre Isineti stage which runs through the Amboseli Game Reserve.

The crews will then trace the Eastern side of Mount Kilimanjaro, ending the day with a 60 kilometre stage south of Kiliminjaro National Park.

Day three (Saturday 23 November) will be made up of three tests set west of Arusha and will begin with the longest stage of this year’s rally, the 154 kilometre Jeshini stage which lies south of Mount Nero National Park.

Day four (Sunday 24 November) is the longest day of the rally as the drivers prepare to cover 322 competitive kilometres. The day will begin with the 117 kilometre Longidu stage which is based west of Arusha and travels north towards the Amboseli Game Reserve. The 116 kilometre Bulls Eye 1 stage that follows begins in the Amboseli Game Reserve and ends just south of the Kaputiei Plains.

Monday 25 November (day five) is an official day of rest for the crews. The teams will be permitted to service the cars for an extended period and this will take place at the Ol Tukai Lodge in the Amboseli national park.

The event will resume on Tuesday 26 November as the crews take on three stages totaling 219 kilometres south of Nairobi. The day’s closing 61 kilometre Meyers Farm 1 test will take the drivers west of Kenya’s bustling capital as they end day six north of Nairobi.

Day seven (Wednesday 27 November) features four stages that are set in and around Naivasha, a market town that lies north-west of Nairobi. The crews will also travel north towards Nakuru National Park which famously attracts large numbers of flamingoes. The total competitive distance on day seven will be 194 kilometres.

The East African Safari Classic’s penultimate day begins with the 51 kilometre Ngong View stage followed by a 69 kilometre test set south-east of Nairobi. The crews then have a 246 kilomtre road liaison section before they take on the 31 kilometre Bula stage close to Taita Hill Game Reserve, adjacent to Tsavo West National park.

The ninth and final day (Friday 29 November) will encompass 190 competitive kilometres and begins with a 37 kilometre stage in Taita Hill Game Reserve. The final two stages on day nine are Majengo and Mackinon Rd – are both set west of Mombasa.

Total route distance: 3,823.50 km

Total competitive sections: 1,759.71 km

Total liaison sections: 2,063.79 km

Number of competitive sections: 26

Longest competitive section: 154.13 km
