T-Sport have confirmed that Karun Chandhok will team up with Steve Tandy for the opening round of the 2017 Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship.
The former Formula One driver will team up with sports car racer Steve Tandy in a Ligier JS P3 - marking the first time either driver will have raced the most successful LMP3 car in the market.
Karun is best known for racing in the FIA Formula One World Championship in 2010 and 2011, but has also competed in a number of prestigious sports car races, including the Le Mans 24 Hours and the Euorpean Le Mans Series. He has also raced in the Formula E, FIA GT Series and the GP2 Series. Karun is now Williams F1 Heritage driver and Channel 4 F1 commentator.
Steve Tandy has raced in the British GT Championship for a number of years and has extensive experience in racing Radical sports cars. Steve also competes in a lot of historic Group C racing. The opening round of the Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship will be the first time Steve and Karun have driven a Ligier JS P3.
T-Sport are familiar with running Formula One drivers, as Force India driver, Sergio Perez raced for the team in 2007, winning the British F3 Series National Class.
The opening round of the series begins on Saturday with free practice at 10:35. Qualifying begins at 13:10 with race one starting at 15:25. On Sunday, qualifying starts at 12:00, with race two beginning at 15:40.

Russell Eacott, Team Principal, T-Sport:
“We’ve got Steve Tandy as our bronze driver and we’ve dusted off an old friend in the shape of Karun Chandhok. We’re really pleased to be at donington as we wanted to be part of the championship.
Karun and I go back 15 years or so and it’s nice that he can join us in the car. We are aiming for the best result we can get and I’m feeling positive.”
Richard Dean, Ligier UK:
“I’m pleased to see the Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship is attracting such big names for it’s opening round. Karun is a great character and still a great driver. His appearance in a Ligier JS P3 in this series is a real boost for everybody involved.
The LMP3 category really is made for everyone of any ability and I’m hoping that is what continues to attract people to the championship. I can’t wait to see all the cars out of track this weekend.”
