Richardson Racing re-signs Luke Browning for 2018 Ginetta Junior Championship

06.12.2017: Richardson Racing can today confirm that it has agreed a deal to re-sign rising star Luke Browning for the 2018 Ginetta Junior Championship season.

Richardson Racing can today confirm that it has agreed a deal to re-sign rising star Luke Browning for the 2018 Ginetta Junior Championship season.

The 15-year-old from Kingsley in Cheshire made his debut in the series this year with the Corby-based squad, which was also running in the highly-competitive championship for the first time.

Despite completing only limited pre-season testing compared to many of his rivals, Luke enjoyed an impressive campaign as he made the move up from the Junior Saloon Car Championship.

Becoming increasingly competitive as the year went on, Luke would secure multiple rookie class podiums over the course of the season, including a maiden class win at Rockingham.

Luke also produced a stunning performance at Silverstone, where he mastered challenging weather conditions to put his car on pole position for the first time.

With a year of experience under his belt, Luke will now go into the 2018 season eager to challenge for championship honours, with a full testing programme in place before the new campaign kicks off at Brands Hatch in early April.

"It was a late call to join the Ginetta Junior championship this year and we knew early on that it would be a season to learn the ropes and master the style of driving that was needed to be competitive,” he said.

“Despite limited testing, we worked hard to make progress through the season, which was largely down to the hard work of the team and the belief they showed in me. Having taken a rookie win and an overall pole position in the second half of the year, I feel confident going into my second season in the series.

“Given how well I settled into the team, and with the work ethic and fantastic team morale they have, I am delighted to re-sign with Richardson Racing for the 2018 campaign with a view to mounting a serious challenge for the championship.

“I am also pleased to have retained our current sponsors and am hopeful that we will be able to welcome some new names in the near future.”

Having seen the way in which Luke progressed during his first season in the series, team boss Gwyn Richardson said he was delighted to keep the youngster onboard for a second year.

“Luke did a great job in his debut season, and we are delighted to have him back again in 2018,” he said. “There is no doubt that he will be a strong contender for the championship title and we go into the new season extremely excited about his chances of success.”

Luke becomes the first driver to sign with Richardson Racing for what will be an expanded Ginetta Junior Championship programme in 2018, with further news to be announced in due course.
