Imperiale Racing twice on the podium in Monza’s round of the Italian GT Championship

10.10.2018: ITALIAN GT CHAMPIONSHIP A second and a third place are the end result of Imperiale Racing’s weekend at the Monza Eni Circuit (ITA) during the penultimate round of the Italian GT Championship

A second and a third place are the end result of Imperiale Racing’s weekend at the Monza Eni Circuit (ITA) during the penultimate round of the Italian GT Championship 2018.

The Italian outfit, after confirming its participation to the closing two rounds of the highest GT Italian series, made it to the track in Monza fielding two Lamborghini Huracán GT3, namely the #16 for Vito Postiglione (ITA) and Karol Basz (PL) and the #36 for Raffaele Giammaria (ITA) and Jia Tong Liang (PRC).

The drivers found a great feeling on the “Temple of Speed” posting very fast lap times since free practice on Friday. This level of performance was confirmed in qualifying on Saturday. A really exciting Q1 saw in fact Basz claiming the front row on the #16 car with a 1:47.866s that was the second quickest time, 0.051s short of the pole position. An amazing Giammaria closed the session in P3 being 0.076s shy of the pole position (1:47.891s) on the #36 car in one of the tightest sessions of the season.

The spectacle continued in Q2 and Postiglione engaged in a hard-fought battle for the pole position with Giancarlo Fisichella (Ferrari 488 EVO #27) on the #16 car. Imperiale Racing’s driver showed all his quality in Monza, ending the session just over a tenth shy of the top in 1’46.816s. The young Jia Tong Liang, on the #36 car, posted his best time in 1’48.846s that was twelfth overall.

Race one was run on autumn conditions and humid track and it had mixed feelings. Despite the tricky conditions in the first stint, Basz showed his grit on the #16 challenger and engaged in a lot of battles on front. Postiglione had to serve a 10s time handicap but pushed hard in his stint recovering several positions and closing his effort in P2.

The race of the #36 sister car was more difficult. Giammaria put in an amazing getaway that allowed him to get P1 and build a good margin on his rivals. Unfortunately, a puncture to the rear left tyre forced him to retire on lap three.

Race two was run on different conditions with dry track and clear sky. Postiglione decided to stay clear of troubles conceding some positions into turn one, but he placed again his Lamborghini Huracán GT3 to the third place during his stint. Basz drove focused in the second stint and crossed the finish line securing the second podium of the weekend in P3.

Race two of the #36 car was full of adrenaline. Liang recovered three positions in the initial laps and installed himself in P9 thanks to some wise driving in the melee following the start. The Chinese driver kept a good race pace until the pit stop and this allowed Giammaria to continue the comeback in his stint and to cross the finish line in seventh.

Imperiale Racing will get back on track for the closer of the Italian GT Championship at the Circuit of Mugello next October 26-28. ·
