....to champion renewables and low carbon technology

Alexander Sims is partnering with Tonik Energy to together champion renewable energy and electric mobility, as Sims makes his racing debut in the all-electric FIA Formula E Championship with BMW i Andretti Motorsport.

A long-time advocate of renewable and clean energy, Sims shares his support of the sector with Tonik Energy, an award-winning UK-based business committed to increasing the uptake of renewables and low carbon technology. The collaboration aims to promote and educate on the benefits of renewable energy for homes, work places, businesses and the public sector through Sims and the dynamic and emotive platform of Formula E electric racing.

Sims will take his place on the grid for the fifth season of the FIA Formula E Championship at the helm of the BMW iFE.18 electric race car. This season marks the change to Gen2 race cars, with increased battery capacity to last an entire race, meaning no mid-race car swap. The cars deliver 250kW of power, with 200kW available during races, and will have a maximum speed of 280km/h (174mph).

Formula E is Sims’ opportunity to combine his love of racing with his mission to bring electric vehicles - and renewable energy - into the mainstream. “It’s a dream come true to be part of Formula E, and it’s something I’m hugely invested in on a personal level,” says Sims. “It’s a great way to engage a young market and get the message out on the benefits of low-carbon vehicles.

“I’m a huge advocate of electric vehicles and renewable energy, so I’m looking forward to working with Tonik as a brand that shares the same values and ethos. Having come across Tonik through its sister company, The Phoenix Works, who installed solar panels at my home, I was impressed by the team and how the business is looking to really drive the way renewable energy and clean technologies work together to address climate change and fuel poverty.”

“We’re extremely excited to be working with someone as passionate about renewable energy as Alexander Sims,” says Chris Russell, MD of Tonik Energy. “We’ve taken a lot of time and care to ensure that we work with like-minded partners who have the same values as we do; that’s really important to us.

People need someone that can capture their imagination, someone who can demonstrate that the phenomenal power of renewable energy doesn’t mean compromising on performance. And with Alexander in the driving seat, it’s going to be that much easier to inspire people to work towards a low-carbon future.”

About Tonik Energy & The Phoenix Works

Tonik Energy is a renewable energy company that wants to do more than simply supply clean, affordable gas and electricity. By accelerating the uptake of microgeneration, battery storage and electric vehicle charging infrastructure, the business plans to halve customer bills by 2022, putting the consumer in control of how they generate, store and use energy.

The Phoenix Works is a clean-tech business built on reputation, quality and customer service. Its highly-skilled workforce has built excellent relationships with industry-leading manufacturers. Its specialisms include installing solar photovoltaic systems, electric vehicle charging infrastructure and energy storage systems.

Following the acquisition of The Phoenix Works (the trading name for Phoenix Renewables) by Tonik’s parent company, RETIG Ltd, both companies are on a joint mission to electrify the UK with low-carbon, renewable technologies for homes, workplaces, businesses, and the public sector.
