ITR GmbH, the parent company that controls and operates the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) has strengthened its hand by making two key appointments ahead of the 2019 season. It has appointed Gordian von Schöning as the series’ new Director Business Unit Sport and Engineering.

Gordian previously worked at BMW Motorsport, where he was the brand’s DTM Project Manager Development & Design. Before joining BMW, he spent nine years working for HWA, as Team Leader Vehicle Development and, latterly, Manager Designer On-Track.

Along with Michael Bernard, Gordian will lead the cooperation between manufacturers, the sanctioning body Deutscher Motor Sport Bund e.V. (DMSB) and ITR in regards to technical developments, especially the development and management of the mandatory parts. Among other affairs, technical aspects of the cooperation with Japanese SUPER GT series is part of his field of activity.

ITR also welcomes Steve Cooper as Head of Communication International. He will be based in the UK, working closely together with Guido Stalmann, Head of Communication at ITR headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany. Steve made his name as a journalist on magazine titles Autosport and F1 Racing before spending a decade at the McLaren Formula 1 team. There, he played a key role in developing its communications output and digital, social and media content.

Achim Kostron, Managing Director ITR GmbH, said: “We’ve never made any secret of our big ambitions for DTM. We want to expand its worldwide exposure and thereby attract new fans from all corners of the globe. We’re developing and growing the team all the time, and these two new appointments reflect our desire to both strengthen our organization, and broaden it at the same time.”

Speaking of his new role, Gordian said: “I’m looking forward to working within the organisation to help make a competitive series that will develop and grow enormously over the next few years.”

Steve added: “It’s the perfect time to be joining DTM. Both Gerhard Berger [ITR e.V. Chairman] and Achim Kostron have a clear, exciting vision for the series, and it’s a terrific opportunity to be able to support and develop the series for the future. I’m looking forward to working with the team to help make that happen.”

Both appointees take up their positions in January.

The nine-round 2019 DTM series, which visits the UK, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands, as well as Germany, kicks off at Hockenheim on May 3-5.
