Formula BMW Europe 2008

Racing Engineering –

Racing Engineering is pleased to announce that they will be entering the Formula BMW Europe Championship for 2008.

Formula BMW Europe is a new championship that will be seen on the tracks of Europe for the first time in 2008, it is a result of merging the Formula BMW Championships of UK and Germany. Boasting a 100,000 Euros prize fund the Championship will take place over eight rounds, seven of which will be part of the support programme for motor racing’s premier class, the FIA Formula One World Championship.

There will be one additional round outside the Formula One calendar at a date to be announced later. Each round will consist of two races, the first to be held on Saturday, the second on Sunday. Racing Engineering are especially proud that they will be the only Spanish team to be entering the Championship, they will be joined by teams from the UK, Germany, France and Italy. Racing Engineering is of course already well known for their encouragement of young talent having won the Spanish Formula 3 Championship on six consecutive occasions.

Racing Engineering considers the Formula BMW Europe Championship an excellent opportunity to further their development of young drivers by giving them a chance to compete on tracks that are part of the GP2 and Formula One championships.

Additionally, as the races share their calendar with GP2 and Formula One races, it will give the young drivers a chance to experience the atmosphere of these exciting weekends at first hand.

Team Principal Alfonso de Orleans-Borbon commented: " Racing Engineering is very happy to enter this championship. It was something we were looking forward to so as to allow the young talents a first contact with the F1 and GP2 tracks, which hopefully they will be there soon. Racing Engineering would like to thank BMW for the opportunity and trust by choosing us to be part in this exciting and new format, which will definitely produce great drivers in the future."

Formula BMW is the world’s leading entry-level class in Formula racing. In 2007 series are being held in Germany, Great Britain, Asia and North America. Equal opportunities are the priority: the young drivers in all series are given the chance to take their first steps in the world of professional motor racing in identical FB02 cars.

This racing car has been a feature on the grid since 2002 and has set new standards in safety technology in particular. The single-seater is powered by a 140bhp BMW engine and reaches 230 km/h. The best-known alumni of this talent hothouse are Formula One drivers Timo Glock, Christian Klien, Nico Rosberg, Ralf Schumacher, Adrian Sutil and Sebastian Vettel.
