05.10.2017: The venue for Round 10 of the 2017 FIA F2 Championship is the Circuito de Jerez and this will be the first time that the Spanish track has hosted a F2 or GP2 race

The venue for Round 10 of the 2017 FIA F2 Championship is the Circuito de Jerez and this will be the first time that the Spanish track has hosted a F2 or GP2 race.



That is not to say that the F2 are not familiar with it as it is a popular test track and it has hosted the F2 teams (when they were still known as GP2) in 2013 and 2016 for pre-season testing.



In the past the circuit has hosted the F1 Spanish GP and its mixture of different corners make it ideal for working on the setup of a car. Unusually this is a stand-alone race for the F2 cars as the F1 teams are headed for Japan this weekend



The Spanish team and their two drivers, Nyck de Vries and Gustav Malja, are looking forward to racing at Jerez as the last two rounds of the F2 Championship have seen the team back to the front of the field and the whole team are very confident that they will be able to target finishing on the podium in the two races.



Additionally, this weekend has special significance for Racing Engineering as their base is at Sanlúcar de Barrameda which is just 40km from the Andalusian circuit.

F2 FACTS



  1. The Circuito de Jerez is located close to the city of Jerez de la Frontera in the province of Cádiz, in Andalucía, Spain.



2. Built in 1986, the 4.4km Circuit of Jerez features five left and eight right-hand corners that makes it a very technical circuit.



3. It will be the first time for Formula 2 to race in Jerez, although, the Spanish circuit has often been used for pre and post-season testing.



4. The last time GP2 tested in Jerez de la Frontera was in 2016, Racing Engineering was the fastest during the 3 days of testing.



5. It will be our home race event, Racing Engineering's workshop is in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, just 40km from the Jerez Circuit.



6. The track layout contains some slow corners as well as medium to fast bends which puts particular emphasis on the rear tyres.



7. With a length of 607 meter, the main straight is short! , so drivers reach the braking section of the first corner really quickly.



8. The UFO which straddles the finish line, was built in 2002, completing a remodeling of the pit lane and garages. Since then, it has become one of the most iconic elements of the circuit.



9. Jerez was also the first circuit to construct a motocross track inside the facilities.



10. The Spanish track requires precision and smoothness in braking, corner entry, and throttle control.
