Tekirova 2 was the first stage ran during the third leg of Rally Turkey. A sky overhead was clear, and the difficult conditions suffered throughout the first two legs of the rally were replaced by drying conditions on the stages. BP-Ford's Mikko Hirvonen claimed his second stage victory of Rally Turkey on the second leg's final contest, the Akdeniz University superspecial stage. Hirvonen narrowly edged out Kronos Total Citroen World Rally Team replacement driver Colin McRae for the stage's quickest time, by just 0.2 seconds.

Sordo finished the stage fourth quickest, despite his lack of confidence. Petter Solberg took his second stage win of the event on the day's longest stage, the 29.28Km Phaselis stage. However, it wasn't enough to let him relax his pace, with four drivers within ten seconds of his time. It was a bit of a lottery for drivers in terms of tyre choice, as the first of the two stages in this loop was muddy but the longer was thought to be drier, higher in the mountains.

As the stage dried significantly since the crews drove through it as a road section this morning, Marcus Gronholm was again fastest, although this time with a smaller margin. The main talking point as the crews returned from the first loop, but only one stage, of the opening leg of Rally of Turkey was the nature of the stages.
Due to the heavy rain, the stages were covered in mud and Kosti Katajamaki described the levels of grip as "hugely inconsistent." He likened it in places to similar levels of grip to ice.

SS1 cancelled
The weather played an early hand in the first leg of Rally of Turkey, as the organisers have been forced to cancel the first stage. The weather conditions are too bad for the medical helicopter to be able to react to an emergency or land in the vicinity of the stage if required and therefore, the organisers were left with no option but to cancel.
