2008 Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations - The secrets of a superb event

The 62nd edition of the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations was an extremely exciting event for the 60,000 spectators entering the area of Donington Park in the Midlands.

The fine work that was needed to put the event together carries its secrets and here are some insightful aspects which played a key role at the Red Bull MXoN.

RED BULL MXoN PADDOCK

This is a key area in the race complex; the paddock is the teams’ base and also the place where the spectators can walk and meet their heroes personally-an aspect that makes motocross a unique sport. Moreover all the parties of the weekend such as the Red Bull ones on Saturday and Sunday were taking part in this area.

The very organized paddock covered an area of 28,000 square metres hosting all 32 teams present on an asphalt base. Moreover Donington Park offered the squads a place inside the pit-boxes of the road racing course being located right next to the paddock. As the whole paddock each pit-box was then personalized by each team with their logos and flags as this various mix of nationalities made it a unique atmosphere. The level of the facilities was excellent both for the spectators and the teams.

The Paddock Village including cafes, merchandise shops and display areas completed the paddock set up.

RED BULL MXoN TV

Television is now a solid reality for the Red Bull Motocross of Nations as it helps spreading the event all over the world. Moreover the presence of 32 Nations at the event gave a further boost to the audience.

The Red Bull MXoN was broadcast live on Eurosport 2 (Pan Europe), VRT (Belgium), Galaxie Sport (Czech Republic), ART (Pan Middle East), Sport TV (Slovenia), Red Bull TV (mobile, Austria), Mediazone (Web), Trans 7 (Indonesia), Sport TV (Portugal), ETV (Estonia).

The Red Bull MXoN was broadcast delayed on Eurosport 2 (Pan Europe), Motors TV (Pan Europe), Sport Italia (Italy), Eurosport World (Pan Asia), America One Sports (USA), Gaora (Japan), Sport 1 (Lithuania).

The worldwide TV distribution of the event will continue through news and highlights programs as well.

Other than the exciting racing the spectators watching the live program could enjoy also pre grid interviews catching the excitement of the riders’ pre race moments, pit lane interviews going through the race highlights with the key team members, interviews at the podium with each heat winner and the winning team, a special "Live from Red Bull Energy Station" commentary in between the moto’s involving Motocross World Champions Stefan Everts, Heinz Kinigadner and Pekka Vehkonen.

Broadcaster Mediazone’s contest winners had an absolutely unique chance to watch this event on site inside the fervid atmosphere that they have been watching via the internet streaming since the beginning of the GP campaign.

RED BULL MXoN TRACK AND DOUBLE FLOOR PITLANE

The Donington Park Grand Prix Motocross Circuit hosted its first GP back in 2007 receiving lots of positive comments on its challenging layout. With more obstacles being added to the track the course presented itself to the Red Bull MXoN riders in an improved shape.

A total of 19 corners were placed all along the 1655 metres of length with the finish line being located on top of a thrilling jump by the Red Bull Energy Station. Spectators could watch the action and feel the competition all along the race course.

The normal pit lane area changed in a double floor pit lane in occasion of the Red Bull Motocross of Nations giving a preview of the 2009 MX World Championship set up. With the mechanics and the team’s staff working on the ground floor the upper floor was hosting the team’s guests and VIP’s who could enjoy the races from a privileged point of view combining a superb track view with the thrilling backstage action of the pit lane work.

Both floors were provided with televisions showing the video footage and the detailed results including split times for a complete understanding of the race.

RED BULL MXoN PRESS OFFICE

The event had an impressive media following with 300 journalists attending the Red Bull Motocross of Nations in order to report about this unique team competition.

The press office at Donington Park was equipped with the best possible facilities including high resolution TV screens showing the video footage and the detailed results including split times, high speed internet access, press conference area where the press could meet the top riders and teams attending the Red Bull MXoN, results service keeping the media up to date with the latest updates on the classification of the event, excellent catering service dedicated to the media.

Moreover the press office was provided with a separate TV studio where the Adamitis Production crew could realize some important footage for their 2008 Red Bull MXoN Movie "Battle at Britain".

RED BULL MXoN RACING, RIDERS AND VIP’S

Fans always go home happy after having attended the Red Bull MXoN as it is the only competition where the riders try their hardest for their home country in a unique team play. The riders entering the event are the best in the whole world and include Supercross stars James Stewart, Ryan Villopoto and Chad Reed; Motocross World Champions David Philippaerts, Tyla Rattray and Steve Ramon; GP winners Sebastien Pourcel, Nicolas Aubin, Ken de Dycker, Tommy Searle, Jonathan Barragan, Max Nagl, Tanel Leok, Gert Krestinov, Gordon Crockard, Marc de Reuver, Josh Coppins and a lot more talents from 32 different countries.

With such an interesting entry list the Red Bull MXoN surely offers the spectators a superb racing show attracting tons of VIP’s as well.

Superb racing made it an unforgettable weekend for the 60,000 spectators

Four time Superbike World Champion Carl Fogarty was there as well as other SBK World Champion Troy Corser.

Motocross legend and 1982 MXoN winner with team USA Danny "Magoo" Chandler flew over from America to Europe being a passionate spectator of the Red Bull MXoN. Chandler also met Youthstream President Giuseppe Luongo and handed him the original Rob Kinsey’s painting of his holeshot at Wohlen MXoN in 1982.

Among the VIP’s present at the event were former World Champion Pekka Vehkonen, Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham’s son Jason Bonham, professional football players Sami Hyypia (Liverpool FC), Alan Smith (Newcastle United FC), Nigel Reo-Coker (Aston Villa FC), actors Kelvin Fletcher (played in Emmerdale), Chris Fountain (played in Hollyoaks), Stuart Manning (played in Hollyoaks) and Roxan McKee (played in Hollyoaks).
