Renault Megane Trophy Eurocup Hungaroring Qualifying
After those at Spa-Francorchamps, Michaël Rossi (TDS) takes another two pole positions Eurocup Mégane Trophy. Dominant from the start of collective testing, the Frenchman left little hope for the competition as he put himself in the lead right from the word go. In the gentleman-drivers category, Jean-Philippe Madonia copied his team-mate, also taking the two pole positions.
On form from the first collective testing session, Michaël Rossi (TDS) set the tone straight away, leading the Tech 1 Racing drivers Dimitri Enjalbert, Mathieu Chéruy and Jonathan Hirschi.
Maxime Martin (Boutsen Energy Racing) and Dimitri Enjalbert stepped up the pace. Martin managed to grab pole position, in 1'51''570 ahead of Enjalbert. Rossi countered immediately, snatching it back with a lap of 1'51''048.
Martin and Enjalbert held on and launched another attack. The pole for the second race, based on the drivers' second best times, was also in their sights. As the session progressed however, the order remained unchanged. Michaël Rossi took control and walked away with two pole positions ahead of the day's challengers, Maxime Martin and Dimitri Enjalbert.
Ralph Meichtry (Race Performance) climbed to fourth position at the end of the session. The Swiss driver looking set to take on the three leaders.
Jean-Philippe Madonia continued the TDS team's domination of at the Hungaroring, when he took both the pole positions in the gentlemen-drivers category.
Michaël Rossi: «This is only the first stage. Come Sunday evening, nobody will care about the pole positions, just the race results! Right now, the weekend is starting to look like Spa-Francorchamps, let's hope it finishes the same. The car is very competitive, the team is working well and we have done a great job preparing. Now, I know that Martin and Dimitri are going to be dangerous rivals on the track.»
Maxime Martin: «It's been hard going! Yesterday, in collective testing, we were a long way off the pace. We've totally changed the set-up of the car, and it's paid off. It's better today, but we still need to change some things before the race. Now I need to take risks and win, a foot on the podium isn't enough.»
