After Spa-Francorchamps, the Eurocup Mégane Trophy now heads for Silverstone. Double winner in Belgium, Michaël Rossi (Top Drive Services) is clearly the man to beat. However, his rivals' growing hunger for victory won't make his job any easier.
The 22 drivers competing in Eurocup Mégane Trophy will be driving at Silverstone for the first time. After three seasons at Donington, the British round of the World Series by Renault will be paying a visit to the home of the British Grand Prix.
Carrying off two pole positions and two wins against stiff competition in Belgium, Michaël Rossi will attempt to continue his form on the UK circuit.
But the twenty year old Frenchman will certainly have his work cut out for him as he drives around Becketts and Woodcote. Among his countrymen, we can expect a response from Mathieu Cheruy (Tech 1 Racing), who claimed two podium places in Belgium, Dimitri Enjalbert (Tech 1 Racing), championship runner-up in 2007, and Fabrice Walfisch (Oregon Team).
Currently third in the overall standings, Jonathan Hirschi (Tech 1 Racing) proved consistent and competitive at Spa with a podium finish on Saturday and the fastest lap on Sunday. The Swiss driver could quickly establish himself as one of the main contenders for the title.
The equally reliable Maxime Martin (Thierry Boutsen Energy Racing), who last season finished in third place, will be looking for his first podium finish of the season at Silverstone.
Despite a fine qualifying session at Spa, Bernhard Ten Brinke (Equipe Verschuur) was only on strong enough form to take nine points in the two races. If he wants to remain in with a chance of the Eurocup, the Dutchman will have to consolidate his position starting with next week-end's British meeting.
The story is the same in the Gentlemen Drivers' class. Dominant at Spa-Francorchamps, Hoevert Vos (Equipe Verschuur) heads up the standings, having scooped the first two races of the season. With two second-place finishes at Spa Bernard Delhez (Tech 1 Racing), currently second in the class, will be upping the ante in an attempt to go one better.
The two 40-minute races, which take place on Saturday at 4:50PM and Sunday at 2:45PM, will help to clarify things. One thing is certain though, and that is that everyone will be setting their sights on Rossi and Vos!
