Front running RX150 competitor Steve Harris is moving up to the Supercar category and will take part in the Monster Energy MSA British Rallycross Championship, in association with MaKTraK, driving a Citroën C4 Supercar.

Harris (51), from Hawkwell in Essex, has raced in the RX150 'off road buggy' class that supports the British Rallycross Championship (BRC) for two years, his return to motor sport coming after more than a decade out of the driving seat. Previously a leading national rally driver, Harris has regained his competitive form is now equipped to challenge for the British championship.

"I've got the car that Liam Doran won the X Games in last summer, it's the best car available so now it's down to me to drive it properly," said Harris. "I used to rally a Metro 6R4 in the late 1980s, I did British championship and Super Challenge events.

The RX150 is fast and very competitive so it's been a great way to get back into motor sport, it's a while since I drove anything quite like a Supercar, but I'm told the cars have improved a lot in the way they handle so I hope it won't be too scary!"

Harris has enlisted former championship winning team Autopoint Specialist Engineering to prepare and run the car for him and will have a test outing before the first BRC round at Lydden Hill Race Circuit on March 24. Already committed to a full British championship season and with backing from Autoplas International and Benchmark Doors, Harris is considering adding further events to his schedule.

"I'm going to see how things go in the first few races, but if I get on well with the car and we have no major problems I might do some European championship events too," he said.

Harris placed fourth in both the 2010 and 2011 RX150 championships, his best individual event result coming with second place at Knockhill in Scotland last September. The RX150 assault was a real family team effort, Harris competing alongside sons Jake and Brett who placed fifth and sixth in the 2011 championship and who will continue to race in the series this year.
