Chareyre brothers win and write Supermoto history in Andorra

PAS DE LA CASA (ANDORRA), 21 September 2008 –

The maiden SuperMoto World Championship outing at Pas de la Casa in Andorra unveiled to be a great showdown.

The Chareyre brothers Thomas and Adrien won the S1 and S2 GP respectively to mark a step stone in the history of the sport. For the first time ever two brothers riding for the same manufacturer and team won a GP each in the same day.

Ivan Lazzarini and Thierry Van Den Bosch rounded off the S1 podium with Davide Gozzini and Gerald Delepine completing the S2 podium.

Bernd Hiemer still leads the S1 Championship from VDB as the battle in between S2 series leader Adrien Chareyre and runner up Davide Gozzini is set to continue at the following round in Busca.

Oliver Pope reinforced his S3 lead by winning this sixth round as Luca D’Addato closed in on Open class leader Heino Meusburger by winning the overall.

S1

Collecting victory in both heats Husqvarna CH Racing’s Thomas Chareyre rounded off a superb weekend as he was even starting from first on the grid after his Superpole success.

Chareyre won his first GP of 2008 ahead of DRC SuperMoto Aprilia Factory team mates Ivan Lazzarini and Thierry Van Den Bosch with the latter struggling to get to grips with the track.

After a first moto hampered by a couple of crashes KTM Italia Miglio’s Bernd Hiemer salvaged his Championship lead courtesy of a fourth place overall ahead of HM Honda Racing Monticelli’s Jerome Giraudo.

Top five overall: 1. Thomas Chareyre (FRA, Husqvarna), 50 points; 2. Ivan Lazzarini (ITA, Aprilia), 40 p.; 3. Thierry van den Bosch (FRA, Aprilia), 40 p.; 4. Bernd Hiemer (GER, KTM), 36 p.; 5. Jerome Giraudo (FRA, Honda), 32 p.

S1 RACE 1

Chareyre took a great start and led from there to the chequered flag. Early runner up Hiemer crashed a couple of times ending seventh as VDB found himself second after the German’s first crash. Van Den Bosch held on to finish second as Lazzarini could not close the gap ending third eventually. Winstanley was fourth ahead of Giraudo with Rigal ending sixth after a solid start.

Top five: 1. Thomas Chareyre (FRA, Husqvarna), 19:26.269; ; 2. Thierry van den Bosch (FRA, Aprilia), +0:07.197; 3. Ivan Lazzarini (ITA, Aprilia), +0:11.278; 4. Matthew Winstanley (GBR, KTM), +0:17.643; 5. Jerome Giraudo (FRA, Honda), +0:18.835

S1 RACE 2

A very motivated Hiemer got off to a great start but after three laps Chareyre exploited a mistake of the German to take the lead. Chareyre flew to victory as Hiemer could not catch up ending second. Despite trying a late charge on Hiemer Lazzarini finished third ahead of a distant Van Den Bosch. Giraudo secured another fifth place.

Top five: 1. Thomas Chareyre (FRA, Husqvarna), 19:17.436; ; 2. Bernd Hiemer (GER, KTM), +0:01.782; 3. Ivan Lazzarini (ITA, Aprilia), +0:03.201; 4. Thierry van den Bosch (FRA, Aprilia), +0:11.537; 5. Jerome Giraudo (FRA, Honda), +0:17.710

S2

Following the disappointment of losing victory in a close opening moto Husqvarna CH Racing’s Adrien Chareyre stormed to victory in heat two wrapping up the overall ahead of first heat winner Davide Gozzini of TM Factory – the duo was level in points.

Courtesy of two third places Husqvarna CH Racing’s Gerald Delepine mounted on the podium in third even though crashes hampered his overall result.

Despite struggling with his injured wrist PMR H2O Aprilia Off Road’s Christian Iddon soldiered on to take fourth overall ahead of a surprising debutant Dominique Poulain.

Attilio Pignotti ended sixth overall after entering an exciting three way battle for third with Iddon and Delepine at heat two.

An injured Luca Minutilli was ninth as his closest Championship rival Massimo Beltrami had to miss the event due to another injury.

Top five: 1. Adrien Chareyre (FRA, Husqvarna), 47 points; 2. Davide Gozzini (ITA, TM), 47 p.; 3. Gérald Delepine (BEL, Husqvarna), 40 p.; 4. Christian Iddon (GBR, Aprilia), 34 p.; 5. Dominique Poulain (FRA, Husaberg), 32 p.

S2 RACE 1

Holeshotter Gozzini was passed by Chareyre by the end of the opening lap; the duo went on in the race banging bars with a bunch of laps remaining. Gozzini made a successful move on Chareyre who tried to reply by going on the inside of Gozzini at the second sky section. Chareyre stalled the bike losing touch with eventual winner Gozzini and ending second. After an early crash Delepine settled into third ahead of Poulain and Iddon.

Top five: 1. Davide Gozzini (ITA, TM), 19:22.418; ; 2. Adrien Chareyre (FRA, Husqvarna), +0:05.453; 3. Gérald Delepine (BEL, Husqvarna), +0:36.878; 4. Dominique Poulain (FRA, Husaberg), +0:40.483; 5. Christian Iddon (GBR, Aprilia), +0:44.741

S2 RACE 2

Chareyre started strong in the final heat winning in a dominant style from the start to the flag. Gozzini followed in second without closing the gap as Delepine recovered to third after another crash; the defending Champion starred a three way battle for third with Iddon and Pignotti rounding off the top five after the dogfight.

Top five: 1. Adrien Chareyre (FRA, Husqvarna), 19:22.828; ; 2. Davide Gozzini (ITA, TM), +0:06.020; 3. Gérald Delepine (BEL, Husqvarna), +0:27.871; 4. Christian Iddon (GBR, Aprilia), +0:28.624; 5. Attilio Pignotti (ITA, KTM), +0:30.071

IN THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS STANDINGS

Topping the overall classification in the Open class was Luca D’Addato who chipped away at the gap from series leader Heino Meusburger. The Italian is just three points away from the Austrian ending a disappointing sixth today as Alberto Dall’Era and Luca De Angelis rounded off the podium.
