Spa Francorchamps Q&A with Jordan King: "I think every driver likes Spa..."

23.08.2016: The GP2 teams and drivers have been on a one-month break following their last race at Hockenheim

The GP2 teams and drivers have been on a one-month break following their last race at Hockenheim and this weekend they will all be back in action again at Belgium’s legendary Spa Francorchamps circuit for round eight of the 2016 Series.

After three very successful race weekends when Racing Engineering’s driver Jordan King took two wins and a second place things did not go as planned at Hockenheim where an incident with one of his rivals effectively ruined his chances of improving his points score.

Despite this setback the young Englishman lies seventh in the Drivers’ Championship and a good weekend could see him in contention for the top three places.

Below Jordan looks back at these previous rounds and looks forward to being back again at the front at Spa.

Jordan, June and July were quite demanding with 5 race events. This not only required a lot from the ! teams, but also from you as a driver. How did you handle this and how did you recharge your batteries during the summer break?

Over the five weeks I just made sure I was well rested, getting a good night’s sleep where I can and also make sure I was eating lots of good food over the summer break. I stayed in England and just spent some time with my family and friends. It is nice to not have to travel and to be able to sleep in your own bed.

You were hit by other drivers at the Hockenheimring, which stripped you of all chances of scoring points, but you won in Spielberg, Silverstone and finished second in Hungary. Do you think this trend can be continued in Spa and Monza, the upcoming venues, and we will see you on the podium again?

Spa was my best weekend last year, so I know I will be fast, it is just a case of making sure everything go! es well. As for myself I am confident and I will be challenging for the win and podiums at both rounds and in both races.

GP2 returns to Spa this week, where you had your first podium finish in this championship in your rookie season in 2015. Is it a race circuit you like and what does it make so special for you?

I think every driver likes Spa, as it is so demanding and fun, but for me I don't have a favorite track, as I approach every weekend the same as I just want to win.

From a more technical point of view, Spa-Francorchamps is the longest circuit on the calendar with the famous high speed corners Eau Rouge and Blanchimont. Combining the long straights with challenging corners, what does a driver have to keep in mind when racing here?

Tyre wear can always be a big factor in the races ! here, so we will need to keep an eye on this. The other big thing is the weather, being up in the hills and surrounded by trees the weather can change very easily and you can get 3 seasons in 1 hour.
