A1 Team Switzerland China  qualifying review

14.04.2007: A1 Team Switzerland China  qualifying review

In the final practice session at the magnificent Shanghai circuit in China on Saturday morning, A1 Team Switzerland's Sebastien Buemi finished third fastest with a time of 01:36.405 and covered 24 laps. Later on in qualifying he put his car sixth on the grid for tomorrow's sprint race.

The weather conditions were dry but slightly overcast in the morning with occasional sunshine. Buemi explains: "It was tough this morning. Right away in the first part of the session I went quick as I had a clear lap."

In qualifying Buemi took a strong sixth place on the grid setting his personal best times in the third and fourth runs (respectively 1:35.698 and 1.35.603).

Buemi commented, "Sixth place and third row - frankly, I am a bit disappointed.Right away in qualifying, I thought I was quick, but we were losing a lot in speed. This morning the car was much quicker in the last free practice session. We have to understand why we lost so much straight-line speed. This track is very technical in the second sector, but this does not explain our difference. The start will be complicated tomorrow with Malaysia Alex Yoong and France's Jean-Karl Vernay just behind me.

For sure, they will push hard and I have to protect my position. The track is wide here and there are plenty of overtaking opportunities. The data collected today will now be analysed carefully later in the afternoon in order to improve the car's balance for tomorrow's races. Let see that something good can come out of our qualifying for tomorrow's sprint race."

Max Welti, team principal, A1 Team Switzerland commented, "The weather is much cooler today and the rain is threatening for tomorrow. We need a good start for the sprint race and hope to finish in a good position."

Finishing as runners-up in 2005, A1 Team Switzerland is one of 22 teams contesting in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport in 2006.
